🎉 10,000 Pledges! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating a huge milestone for Unplugged Canada — 10,000 parents and caregivers who have taken the pledge to delay smartphones and protect childhood.

In just over 18 months since our official launch, this movement has grown faster than we ever imagined:

✨ A brand‑new website
✨ 20 local chapters across the country
✨ Dozens of incredible School Champions (you can sign up in our bio!)
✨ 100+ media stories, podcasts and radio interviews amplifying the message
✨ Countless parent, staff, and student presentations
✨️ Booths, Book Clubs, Coffee Chats, and Community Gatherings
✨ Thousands of volunteer hours poured into building resources for families and schools

And the best part? We’re just getting started.

We hope to welcome many, many more parents and caregivers into this movement — families who want to delay smartphones, protect childhood, and connect with like‑minded parents in their own communities.

💛 Help us reach our next goal of 20,000 pledges.  Add your name. Share the pledge. Become a School Champion. Join a chapter. Start a conversation.

Together, we can change the norm.

This story was shared with us from an Unplugged Canada parent:

A question was asked in my 8-year-old daughter’s class:

“If you could change one thing at home, school, or in your community… what would it be?”

She and her friend raised their hands together.
They had been reading The Amazing Generation… and their answer surprised everyone:

👉 “We think kids should wait until 16 to have smartphones and social media”

At first, the reaction was exactly what you’d expect:
“Why would you do that?”
“I already have a phone.”

But instead of backing down… they leaned in.
After class, they asked their teacher: “Can we do a presentation on what we’ve been learning from The Amazing Generation?”

She said yes.

For the next two weeks, they worked together—turning ideas from the book into something they could share with their classmates.

They stood in front of their class and explained:
• How apps are designed to be addictive
• How too much time on apps impacts their brain.
• How much time gets taken away from real life
• And the idea of the “Rebel’s Code”:

✨ Use technology as a tool. Don’t let technology use you.
✨ Fill your life with REAL freedom, REAL friendships and REAL fun.

And something really interesting happened.
Hands went up:
“My parents took away my phone and now I’m more energetic and have more fun!.”
“I have less time on my ipad now.”

The conversation changed—not because adults forced it…
But because kids understood it.

That’s what this is about.
👉 Empowering kids with knowledge so they can make their own choices.

The Amazing Generation didn’t just inform them…it empowered them.

Imagine if every classroom read this book and had this kind of conversation.

Delaying smartphones and social media would be so much easier for families.

🚨 Huron & Perth — we need your help 🚨

Huron Perth Unplugged is a LOCAL chapter of a growing NATIONAL grassroots movement — bringing awareness and real change for kids and families in our community.

We’re a small but dedicated team of volunteers — parents, along with a psychologist, psychotherapist, nurse, teacher, and more — committed to supporting healthy childhood development. We can’t do it without our community.

Across Canada, this movement is supported by parents, educators, doctors, psychologists, and organizations like the Canadian Medical Association, SickKids, CHEO, and the Ontario Psychiatric Association.

We asked Canadians to sign an open letter calling for a social media age minimum of 16.

4,100+ signatures in two weeks.
Every province and territory represented.

Doctors, teachers, pediatricians, parents, and major organizations all speaking with one voice.

The message is clear: enough is enough.

We delivered it to the Prime Minister’s Office last week, and the list of supporters continues to grow.

A huge thank you to all of the MPs across Canada who have met with us, provided guidance, offered support, and brought their constituents’ concerns into these important conversations.

Yesterday was a big day 📣

One of our Guiding Principles at Unplugged Canada is community collaboration. , , and teamed up to deliver a joint letter to the Ontario Ministry of Education and his team, highlighting how our organizations can help improve student wellbeing, academic performance, and behaviour.

Students deserve a phone-free learning environment from bell-to-bell.

Educators are in need of high-quality resources to support teaching students how to navigate our current digital ecosystem.

Parents and caregivers are seeking a supportive community as they work to delay smartphones and social media and find safer alternatives for their kids.

This is what collective action looks like.
