Thank you to everyone who showed up, left feedback, and helped encourage participation to the City’s November 27 Open House for Fredericton’s Transportation Study & Integrated Mobility Plan.

The results are in - they are very encouraging:
• ~70 people attended
• Active Transportation was the top focus (55% of comments, 40% of votes)

The top two themes were:
• Residents highlighted the need for safe, connected, and accessible bike and pedestrian routes throughout the city;
• Comments emphasized protected bike lanes, improved trail crossings, secure bike parking, winter maintenance, and multi-use paths;

See details at the bottom right corner under "Documents": https://engagefredericton.ca/integrated-mobility-plan?tool=survey_tool

We nearly missed the open house and we completely missed the “What We Heard” summary after. If you care about transportation, walking, cycling, transit, accessibility, or land use: register with Engage Fredericton so you don’t miss updates that matter to you (https://engagefredericton.ca/register).

The results of the open house show why public engagement matters — it creates a record the City can’t ignore.

💛 Thank you, active commuters of 2025 🚲🚶‍♀️

This year we showed up together.
From our April in-person session, to two Breakfast on the Bridge (with Fredericton Active Transportation Coalition ) events, to attending the Integrated Mobility Plan open house, we kept active transportation visible, grounded, and community-driven.

A real highlight came at the December Mobility Committee, where councilors and the Mayor clearly acknowledged that mode shift is the smartest way to reduce downtown congestion, a meaningful shift in the conversation.

Looking ahead to 2026, we’re excited to:
• bring forward an ATAC proposal
• keep celebrating commuters
• continue building a vibrant AT community

Mode shift happens when people show up.
Thank you for being part of it 💛

Open House Reflections: A Step Toward True Integrated Planning

Last week’s City open house left us feeling energized and hopeful. Participants clearly care about sustainable mobility - and it genuinely felt like the majority of visitors were supporters of active transportation. That’s encouraging in itself.

What stood out even more was the City’s strong presence: a large team of public servants and consultants, all available to explain, answer, and listen. This openness matters. It signals a shift away from isolated, siloed projects and toward something much more meaningful.

The big news?
Integrated planning is finally taking shape.

For years, decisions about roads, trails, and public transit have often been made independently. Yesterday, we saw the early signs of those pieces being brought together - and that’s a milestone worth celebrating.

At Urbanita, we’re excited to see this evolution, and we want to highlight the genuine effort taking place inside the City. This is a positive step, and we support it wholeheartedly.

But we also know: the work doesn’t stop here.

Integrated planning is a long-term commitment. It requires consistency, courage, and community involvement. The Open house was a strong start, and we look forward to continuing the conversation, contributing ideas, and helping ensure that mobility and urban design decisions work together- not against each other.

Here are some of the themes we noticed on the community feedback post-it board:
1. Cycling infrastructure needs major expansion.
2. Pedestrian safety and accessible crossings are recurring issues.
3. Transit requires better frequency, regional connections, and clearer communication.
4. Winter maintenance is critical for year-round mobility.
5. Intersections and parking practices create danger points.
6. People want compact, walkable neighborhoods with more amenities.
7. The city needs a connected, intuitive AT network.
8. Better signage, data collection, and information systems are needed.
9. Accessibility concerns must be integrated into all planning.
10. Citizens want more coordinated, transparent planning processes.

Our next step is to prepare our presentation to the Mobility committee, to propose the establishment of an Active Transportation Advisory Committee. We consider this a critical factor of success in the development and implementation of an integrated mobility strategy.

Thank you all for your support!

A City-Wide Mobility Plan Is Coming — Let’s Make Sure It Includes Active Transportation!

The City is hosting an open house on November 27th to gather public input for its next Integrated Mobility Plan — the document that will shape how we move around Fredericton for the next 20 years.
https://engagefredericton.ca/integrated-mobility-plan

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) you unanimously supported in our earlier survey must be part of this process; real dialogue with users of the active transportation network is essential to ensure that Fredericton's future designs prioritize active modes.

Bikeable cities around the world show how essential strong mobility plans are for long-term walkability and cycling.

Without ATAC, we’re concerned this process may not fully reflect the needs of active transportation users.

***Call to action: Your voice at this community consultation will shape the future of urban cycling in Fredericton.

We invite you to help us in our collective request to establish an Active Transportation Advisory Committee before the mobility plan is drafted.

To simplify this collective request, we’ll bring pre-printed sticky notes to the open house supporting the creation of an Active Transportation Advisory Committee — and we’ll invite anyone who agrees to:
1️⃣ Add their name, and
2️⃣ Write one sentence about why this matters to them.

These personal statements make a difference.

They help show the City that support for an ATAC is real, thoughtful, and coming from individual community members — not anonymous opinions.

==> Open House — less than a week from now

We’ll be there, listening, learning, and asking for a process that includes all mobility users from the start.

Can’t attend?

Leave your feedback here (2 minutes), we will print it and bring it to the Open House: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeyV3heYiYf9fu_3ayPXIiwIHGqD4AC3syLMyfU0xt0iR__Mw/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=102664491933918582596

🚲 What a success at our first Commuters’ Breakfast!

More than 75 commuters—about two-thirds arriving on bikes—stopped by to share a coffee, snack, and conversation with fellow active transporters. Some stayed for just a minute, others for an hour, but all helped make it a vibrant morning.

We welcomed:
• People on their way to work and school
• Folks with the day off who still hopped on their bikes to join us
• 6 kids 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
• Riders who took a detour from their usual route just to come by
• Cyclists heading out on longer rides
• People fitting us into their morning exercise routine
• Work-from-home commuters who made a special trip across the bridge
• Local government representatives and business owners
• Friends and family supporting our volunteers

The Fredericton Active Transportation Coalition and Urbanita thank everyone who came out and made this morning such a success. Many thanks to our special volunteers🌟

👉 See you at the next Commuters’ Breakfast!

🌧️ Happy rainy Saturday, Urban Cyclists!

Since the event (which still makes us smile—thank you!), we’ve been hard at work doing research and building a plan. Today, we could use your help with two quick things:

1️⃣ Stay in the loop
We’d love to keep you informed as we move forward! Please follow and like the Urbanita page — it’s where we’ll be sharing updates (when not by email).

2️⃣ Help us close the loop on our survey
We’re gathering just a few more responses before closing the survey Monday night. If you haven’t yet, or know someone who should—please share it with your friends and family! https://urbanita.ca/fredericton-urban-cyclists/

🔍 What about the data collected?
We will remove names from the results, and we’re working with some brilliant data scientists to compile everything responsibly. A portion of the results will be shared soon with the City as part of our proposal — and also in support of the Engage Fredericton initiative for the Integrated Management Plan.

Here’s a little peek at how people responded to the very first question... 👇

À bientôt!

Fredericton Urban Cyclist Soirée : Thank you and next steps

This week’s Soirée brought together a lively and thoughtful group of commuters for a focused evening of conversation around cycling in Fredericton. Hosted as an informal, community-first event, the soirée was designed to listen, learn, and potentially lay the groundwork for a more collaborative relationship between citizens and the city.

We couldn't have been happier with the turnout and engagement.

The room was brimming with diverse participants: parents, retirees, students, working professionals, 4-season hardcores, chill grocery commuters, riders of gravel bikes, fixies, stylish vintage dutch bikes, and everyone in between. The diverse perspectives brought unique insight and a shared passion for making Fredericton more bikeable, safe, and inclusive.

We sincerely thank the organizations that helped make this event possible.

💡 What’s Next?
This was just the beginning. In future posts, we’ll share what participants had to say about:

- Safety and respect on the road
- Winter commuting
- Infrastructure
- Community collaboration

Stay tuned — and thank you to everyone who made this first Causerie such a meaningful success.
