Across our province our members and volunteers were out to celebrate! Our public healthcare system is such a big part of Canadian pride and so there is no better way to commemorate this holiday than by doing something to protect the Canada Health Act which right now is at risk.

Our goal is to have 159 people today write the Prime Minister and Health Minister to ask them to enforce the Canada Health Act here in Alberta and put an end to two-tier, American-style health care.

Barely two months after Bill 29 was passed, for-profit health care corporations are wasting no time capitalizing on their chance to charge Albertans directly out-of-pocket for diagnostic testing. A promotional email from TELUS Health this week offers full body MRIs to Albertans *starting* at $3000.

“We should be ensuring that MRIs in Alberta are being done based on medical need, not self-referrals for expensive unnecessary testing that we know will only increase the pressures and costs in our already strained public health care system,” said FOM's Chris Gallaway.
