Our friends at the OWA have another great issue of The Ontario Woodlander coming out soon…

The Fall 2026 issue of The Ontario Woodlander magazine is off to the printer and will be distributed to members later this month!

This issue focuses on the importance of habitat connectivity and ecological corridors. OWA President Colleen Drew-Baehre says, "Private woodlot owners contribute tremendously to the continuity of woodlands and wetlands that allow wildlife to move freely across the landscape."🦌

Several articles in this issue feature a project funded with support from the Greenbelt Foundation, in which the OWA and Kawartha Land Trust partnered to restore a rare tallgrass prairie along the Oak Ridges Moraine. 🌾

CIF Algonquin Section was well represented at our Silver Ring Ceremony for the 2026 Algonquin College Forestry Technician class yesterday, most wearing multiple hats through affiliations with the OWA, the Friends of the PRF, and the College itself…

Our National President Dean Assinewe, attended, giving an inspiring keynote address. Dean is a member in Algonquin Section, so he did not have to travel too far.

Other members who spoke or attended included Tony and Ann Bull, Liz Cunningham, Jeff Leavey and John Pineau. Pete Arbour did his usual masterful job as MC of the ceremony.

Matthew Neadow, Acting Academic Chair of the Business, Technology and Oudoor Training Department at the College also addressed the 150+ audience of students, family and friends.

Class Rep and CIF Gold Medal recipient Elgin Hamilton concluded the slate of speakers with a thoughtful summary of the year and the program… and a deep and powerful original poem.

It was a special ceremony for a special group… both formal and fun. Sincere congratulations to this year’s Silver Ring and Award recipients! All the best for your future endeavours…
