On International Women’s Day March 8, Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau recognizes the suffering, strength, sacrifice that our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends and family endured 50 years ago during the Fall of Saigon, and of course, long before that. The impossible choices Vietnamese women were forced to make for the good of their families. Balancing cultural and generational demands and expectations while trying to shape and assert their own identities. What it meant to start over here in Canada, the many challenges, hardships, they faced so that the next generation of women could live a better, freer, life. We think about the resilience of the Vietnamese-Edmonton community and the work the second generation carries in order to care gently and respectfully, for our elders and our youth. We think about bridging the gap, mending the trauma, and forging our own paths. All the while doing it with kindness, love, joy, conviction (and a bit of spice 😉). We are blazing a trail that our ancestors could never have imagined.

We acknowledge and thank the many women who have shown up for the Vietnamese-Edmonton community since our arrival in the city, and particularly the women who have shown up to Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau spaces since we began our efforts to bring the community together last fall.

Happy International Women’s Day from the Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau family. May you celebrate and uplift the women in your lives today and every day.

As leaders, advisors, and community champions, this board will support the advancement of our mission to create spaces—both in-person and digital—where adult children of Vietnamese immigrants and the broader Vietnamese-Edmonton community can connect with their heritage, share stories, and build bridges across generations. Our board members’ leadership will play a key role in expanding partnerships, supporting cultural programming, setting direction and laying the foundation for long-term impact.

We are deeply grateful for their commitment, and excited for what we will build in the coming years—together.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE! 🎙️

Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau is excited to share a new guest podcast episode we recorded with the Edmonton Community Foundation, a reflection on Where We Came From (and where we go from here) for Lunar New Year (and beyond).

Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau co-founders Linda Hoang and Jessica Truong shared the mic with Vietnamese-Edmontonians David Thao-Nguyen of AGNT and Linh Vu of Mãi Mãi - Viet Street Kitchen, about the struggles and experiences of our immigrant families, as well as our personal journeys that have led to capturing our family's stories before its too late.

Listen to this excerpt from David, who interviewed his uncle to document his family's story, and his call to action for others to do the same.

Click to hear the full podcast episode, which explores what it means to carry a refugee story across generations, and how we keep those memories alive.

You can also find the full podcast conversation by searching "The Well Endowed Podcast" (episode 202) wherever you listen to podcasts.

WHAT DOES MỘT, HAI, BA, DZÔ MEAN?

Một, hai, ba, dzô! (or just dzô!) is the most popular Vietnamese phrase for “cheers!” when you drink. The direct translation is “one, two, three, drink/go in” and is typically shouted as everyone raises their glasses to cheers then drink!

WHAT IS VINABEATS?

Vinabeats is a play on the term Vinahouse and beats. Vinahouse is a high-energy, fast-paced, Vietnamese electronic dance music subgenre, often includes remixes with Vietnamese-Pop or international hits.
