October 1 is National Seniors Day: an opportunity to celebrate older adults across Canada and recognize the many contributions they make to our families, communities, and society.

The National Health Arts Network - Health Arts Society/Concerts in Care/LaSAMS - delivers professional concerts of all kinds of music that connect older adults across Canada with exceptional live music experiences. We are the largest pan-Canadian arts provider for seniors —a sector society consistently undervalues and neglects.

Together, we facilitate social connections, foster wellness, mitigate loneliness, and build community by bringing seniors together to share in the joy of concert-hall-quality performances that are close to home in long-term and memory care, community centres, libraries, hospitals, retirement homes, supportive housing and shelters, palliative care, and seniors’ day programs.

Collectively – and with the help of our funders, including Sienna For Seniors Foundation, BMO Financial Group , The Azrieli Foundation and the Bennett Family Foundation – we deliver more than 3,400 concerts nationwide annually, bringing joy, connection, memories, and meaningful music to 159,000 seniors, staff, and community caregivers nationwide. 🎶🇨🇦

The wait is over: our Silent Auction is officially live and open for bidding!

Every winning bid directly funds Concerts in Care Alberta, delivering bedside and small-group professional concerts to residents in long-term care, supportive living, and palliative care facilities across the province. Sincere thanks to the generous donors, sponsors, and artists across Alberta who contributed to this year's lineup.

Bidding is open province-wide through September 30th on packages including:

Premier Sports & Stays: Lower-bowl Edmonton Oilers Club seats with private lounge access, and a luxury overnight escape to the Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary.

A folk music tour around the world with the Ednova Quartet at CapitalCare Kipnes, told through the people in the room:

Wilna used to love dancing before losing the ability to walk following childhood polio in Scotland and a later fall in Canada. Hearing the quartet, she told us the music “gave her the urge to dance again.”

Ted taught English in Korea in the 1970s. When the quartet played a traditional Korean piece, the sound brought his teaching years right back to the surface.

Gilbert followed every transition across Norway, Ireland, China, and Korea: “There’s so much change.” Reconnecting with him after our last visit and catching up before the first piece was a highlight of the day.

The music brings the history out of the room. Thank you to the Ednova Quartet for sharing these pieces with the residents.

Our sincere gratitude goes out to Marcin Swoboda (viola) and Donovan Seidle (violin) for their performance at Inglewood by Optima in Red Deer.

This visit was especially meaningful for Jean, a resident who used to teach piano lessons in Winnipeg. Jean taught her whole family piano, and her household was full of music—her husband played piano and organ, and her children played trumpet, trombone, flute, and drums.

Every time we visit, Jean shares that it “makes her day” to hear the music she worked in and taught for so many years.

Thank you, Marcin and Donovan, for bringing live classical performances directly to Jean and her fellow residents.
