We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Calgary Musicians Association and the Music Performance Trust Fund to present a series of 20 free concerts throughout Southern Alberta this year.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of presenting Airdrie Ignas and Norbert Boehm at St. Michael's Health Care Centre in Lethbridge. It was a wonderful afternoon of music and connection for the residents.

A huge thank you to Calgary Philharmonic Musicians and our generous individual donors in Lethbridge for helping us bring the gift of music to our neighbors!

On Saturday, the Concerts in Care Alberta family gathered in Red Deer for a very special milestone: our AGM and first-ever board retreat!

After years of virtual and hybrid meetings, it was incredibly moving to have our members travel from as far as Vancouver and Lethbridge to connect in person. We spent the day diving into strategic planning and looking toward the future of bringing live music to seniors across the province.

We also took a moment to express our deepest gratitude to three extraordinary board members who have completed their terms. Their volunteer leadership has been the backbone of our work:

Karen Lynch: Our Board Chair for the last six years.

Bruce Wright: A founding member of all Concerts in Care boards nationally and our last original member.

Bernie Bolton: Our Secretary-Treasurer for the last six years.

A massive thank you to all our board members who volunteered their time to travel and participate, to Mike Reid for his expert facilitation, and to Optima Aspen Ridge for generously donating the beautiful space. We are more inspired than ever to continue our mission!

We have some bittersweet news to share.

As of today, Concerts in Care Alberta has officially reached a historic milestone: we have hit our 450-performance cap for the entire year. 450 is the number of concerts we can offer at our subsidized rate of $200 per performance. While we are thrilled that our concerts are in such high demand, it means that for the first time ever, we are having to turn away new requests from care facilities for the rest of 2026. Already we have turned down concerts in Edmonton, Calgary and Athabasca.

Our budget is maxed, but the need for professional music in elder care isn't. We want to say yes to every Albertan in care who needs the joy of a live performance, but we can't do it without additional funds.

Can you help us raise the ceiling? A donation today helps us move toward a future where no care home is left waiting.

Hear From Our Board

"Often Albertans consider volunteer leadership as what they give to their community. Serving on the Concerts in Care board definitely gave me insights. With over 50 years of service as a nonprofit leader on several boards and as a senior staff leader, I can assuredly claim engaging with Concerts in Care’s board, staff, and musicians has been a stellar, rewarding experience. My appreciation for the sheer joy that our musicians bring to seniors living in congregant residences escalates my hope that Concerts in Care continues to expand its reach and impact throughout Alberta. Serving this mission will undoubtedly enrich your life. Please consider our invite." -Karen Lynch, Board-Chair 2020-2026

This month marks a major milestone for Concerts in Care Alberta. While our story began with a pilot in 2011, January 2016 sparked the beginning of the active, province-wide journey we are on today.

Over the last decade, we have been honored to bring the concert hall to those who cannot easily leave their homes. From Lethbridge to Medicine Hat to Fort McMurray, our mission has reached every corner of the province. We navigated a pandemic by pivoting to a digital platform and outdoor concerts, and have since rebuilt to our current level while remaining fiscally strong and growing our budget every year. We have built a strong and dedicated Board of Directors with robust policies and strategic plans.

2,000+ Live Concerts

200+ Professional Artists

100,000+ Albertans reached in care, retirement, psychiatric, and palliative facilities.

We are so grateful to the facilities that welcome us, the artists who share their skills, and the donors who make this possible. Here’s to the next 10 years - enjoy a few photos from our first decade!

It has been a busy few weeks for us, with 36 concerts across the province since the beginning of December in retirement communities, long term care, palliative care, senior day programs and a few special concerts at Alberta Hospital's forensic psychiatric unit. We love celebrating the holiday season with our audiences.

We’re sharing Margaret’s story a few days early because her words capture exactly why Giving Tuesday matters so much to us. Our concerts bring comfort, connection, and genuine joy to seniors across Alberta.

On Tuesday, we’ll be inviting our community to help us reach even more seniors like Margaret in 2026. If her smile moves you, we hope you’ll join us.
