The University of Alberta Council of Canadians is a working group of APIRG and chapter of The Council of Canadians. Started with the frustration about the state of our government and hope that change is possible, we take a stand on important political, social, economic, environmental and cultural issues. This year, our focus is on Water. We have launched the 2013-2014 Water Initiative around these

5 principles:

The Five "Blue Community" Principles:

1) Recognize the basic human right to safe drinking water.

2) Defend and promote publicly financed, owned and operated water and wastewater services.

3)Promote the responsible use of water.

4) Promote the use of free drinking water from public infrastructure.

5) Support other students, faculties, organizations, and groups in their efforts to provide functioning public safe drinking water services. Our mandate is broad and based off of The Council of Canadians', because of this, our members drive what we do. We are always open to new suggestions, ideas, and relationships so that we can work together towards our shared goals.
