This Earth Day is a reminder that it's easy to show some love to your local neighbourhood, city, or highway by participating in a spring cleanup program! 🌎🫶

A perfect example is the Green Deer initiative hosted by the Kerry Wood Nature Centre. They provide all the supplies and support needed to “leave it better than you found it.”

Find your local program, register, and remember to set aside beverage containers along the way to donate or cash in. Happy spring cleaning! 🍃

Big ideas don’t just come from big cities.

Across Alberta, Depot operators from our smallest towns are coming together to share insights, solve challenges, and learn from one another. 🤜 🤛

From exploring rural-scale technology to finding new ways to elevate your experience, these conversations are all about raising the bar. It’s about creating more consistency and making sure every Albertan has access to a great Depot experience.

These meetings are a reminder that the strength of our network comes from behind-the-scenes collaboration. When operators connect, share, and support each other, the entire system gets better. ♻️🩵

35 years of hard work, family, and community. 💚

Huge congratulations to the Kullar family on an incredible milestone! Since opening Bowness Bottle Depot on April 11, 1991, they’ve transformed what was once a small, crowded space into a thriving hub built on grit and genuine care.

As a kid, Dilnaj (the current operator of the Depot) spent his summers working alongside his dad and uncle — learning the business, putting in the effort, and building something meaningful together. 💪 Those early years weren’t easy, but they laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Today, that legacy continues. The Depot is a true reflection of the people behind it — a welcoming space where neighbours from all walks of life connect. That industrious spirit also shines through their community heart, having raised over $25,000 for the “Cans for Kids” initiative.

Thank you to the Kullar family for your 35 years of dedication, resilience, and service to the Bowness neighbourhood. Cheers to many more! 🎉

For many Albertan kids, returning bottles is one of their first lessons about money. 💵♻️

To celebrate Global Money Week, we stopped by Aspen Heights MicroSociety, where students run a Microsociety, complete with jobs, wages, government, and even a bottle recycling program! 🧃

Check out how this initiative is giving the next generation a boost in financial literacy and other important life skills.

The easiest pot of gold you'll find this St. Patrick's Day is sitting right in your garage. Trade in those empties at your local Depot for some extra cash! 🌈

It’s a win-win-win. You’re helping the planet, supporting a local business, and getting a little something back for yourself. 🍀

Alberta Runs on Empties—and so does Queso’s happy ending. 🐾

Back in July, this brave little Pug was in a fight for his life after a serious accident. He was critically ill and needed urgent, lifesaving medical care. Because of the incredible partnership between Quick Stop Bottle Depot and Humane Animal Rescue Team (hart), the funds were there to give Queso the emergency treatment he desperately needed.

After a courageous recovery (and losing one eye), he found his forever home. Today, he’s living his best life with his big brother Archer, proving that a little "Pugatude" goes a long way.

Queso is just one of many dogs alive today because Albertans return their empties. Since 2020, this partnership between Quick Stop Bottle Depot and hart has raised $12,000 to provide emergency medical care, transport, and safe shelter for animals in need.

Your empties fill bellies! 🍎🧃The Whitecourt Bottle Depot has teamed up with the local non-profit, Community Lunch Box Society, to keep kids fed and ready to learn.

Through a donation bin at the Depot and collection bins across town, this ongoing "bottle drive" raises funds weekly to buy healthy lunches for students across 12 local schools! 🫶 Thank you to everyone who donates — you are proving that community makes a difference.

Did you know that returning your beverage containers can help us build a stronger, climate-resilient future?

We are proud to highlight that 7 Depots in southern Alberta are actively supporting The Resilience Institute (TRI). 🌱

TRI is doing incredible work right here in our backyard. They bring together scientific, local, and Indigenous knowledge to educate and research ways we can adapt to climate change. It’s about using every tool we have to take care of the land and each other.

Want to help? Next time you have a bag of empties, you can look for the TRI donation bins and information at these these participating Depots:

♻️ Cardston Bottle Depot
♻️ Fort Macleod Bottle Depot
♻️ GPS Container Depot (Lethbridge)
♻️ GPS Container Depot West (Lethbridge)
♻️ KJ Cameron Service Industries Ltd - Pincher Creek Bottle Depot
♻️ Kainaiwa Bottle Depot

Meet Dhara and Kuntal Patel, the power couple behind the Didsbury Bottle Depot.

They prove every day that their “empties" are actually full of love—for each other, and for their community.

Between supporting bottle drives and lending out their trailer to simply being friendly faces at the Depot, they put their whole heart into everything they do for Didsbury.

For 50 years, Alberta’s independent bottle depots have proven that we are stronger together. 🤝

Since 1976, the Alberta Bottle Depot Association (ABDA) has worked behind the scenes to connect local Depots, helping us build shared standards and improve your experience. It’s a team effort that ensures you can count on trusted service, no matter which community you call home.
