Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues

Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues Edmonton's Community Leagues... where neighbours meet and great things happen! Get to know your neighbours and make your community vision a reality!

The first community league began in Edmonton in 1917, and by 1920, there were nine community leagues. Realizing it was better to work together, the leagues formed the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues on January 24, 1921. A representative board was voted in from various members of the community leagues, with the responsibility of representing the leagues at City Council on issues of civic e

ngagement. Today, there are 157 community leagues across Edmonton, and the mandate for the EFCL remains much the same as it did in 1921, but with the addition of providing a wide variety of support initiatives to the community leagues which range from board development to civic awareness, program development and negotiation on behalf of the leagues. The EFCL board is still a volunteer group and is made up of 12 league reps from the various city district areas and to help them, there is a 7.5-member staff working hard on behalf of the 157 leagues across the city.
