Many thanks to Reverend Mark Lewis for leading our prayer services.

Also we want to thank South Dundas Municipal Councillor Tom Smythe for attending the event to give us an update on the South Dundas Cemetery Advisory Committee which Tom leads.

Lastly, a big thanks to Kevin Allen of Eastern Ontario Cemetery Memorials for his presentation about the recent innovation of having urns embedded in tombstones. A very good option for family plots.

We look forward to Decoration Day 2027!

TODAY IS A SPECIAL DAY THAT CHANGED HISTORY.

D DAY - JUNE 6th 1944

It's a good day to honour all of our 35 War Veterans interred at St. John-the-Baptist Anglican Cemetery in Iroquois.

On June 6th 1944 over 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed or parachuted on to the coast of France. Of those Canadians, 381 were killed, 584 were wounded, and 131 were captured.

These brave soldiers went on to defeat a ruthless fascist dictator...Adolph Hi**er.

We owe them a lot.

EVENTS:
• Welcome and prayers by Reverend Mark
Lewis
• Kevin Allen of Eastern Ontario Cemetery
Memorials will speak about "cremation
monuments" in which cremation urns are
put into headstones. 24” and 30” hold
two urns.
• Tom Smyth, Councillor, Municipality of
South Dundas, and Chair, South Dundas
Cemetery Advisory Committee
will speak about the committee’s
ongoing work.
• An update by the Board on our work
to maintain our three cemeteries.
• Participants are encouraged to clean
and decorate their family’s headstones.
Cleaning tools (rags, water, brushes and
D-2 cleaner) and assistance will be
available.
• Cookies and refreshments

A tree just fell down in St. James Cemetery in Morriburg and we have begun work to remove it. Many thanks to the folks who posted the initial post on Facebook.

TODAY IS A VERY SPECIAL DAY. Why?

It's the 85th Anniversary of VE DAY - Victory in Europe Day. When the N***s surrendered to Allied Forces.

We salute all of the 21 World War 2 Veterans interred at St.John-the-Baptist Cemetery in Iroquois. We are forever indebted to each Veteran.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

Easter, also known as Pasch/Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which according to the New Testament happened on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans in 30AD. It is a very significant event for all Christians.

One tradition associated with Easter is the "Easter Egg" that delicious chocolate egg we all love to eat. The egg is an ancient symbol of new life and rebirth and became a symblol of the empty tomb from which Christ arose. The custom of the "Easter Egg" originated in the early Christian community of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion. Dyed chicken eggs were used. Over the centuries the egg evolved in to the multi variety of chocolate eggs that we love to consume.

COMING SOON! DECORATION DAY 2026 - You’re Invited!
Sunday, June 7th - 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Decoration Day @ St. John-the-Baptist Anglican Cemetery in Iroquois (Dr Miller Drive).

This year, we’re celebrating our thiord annual Decoration Day (also known as Memorial Day). This is a time-honoured tradition where families visit the cemetery to pay respects to their loved ones by tidying up gravesites, cleaning cemetery memorials and placing floral tributes. It is nice remembering those who have passed on and honouring them and showing reverence.

Program:
Welcome by Reverend Mark Lewis, Anglican Parish of South Dundas.
Guest speaker TBA

Volunteers will be available to advise/assist any participants who would like to clean and decorate their family’s or ancestral headstones. Cleaning tools will be available.

Cookies and refreshments will be available. Please bring a lawn chair, family picnics are encouraged.
