SCAA Artist of the Week is our youngest and newest member, Kenji Sumbler, an abstract artist from St. Catharines who paints with acrylic on canvas. Kenji is severely autistic and non-verbal, so painting is his primary language and how he connects with the world around him.

His abstract art replaces spoken words with bold colour, thick layers, and heavy textures. Each of his canvases shows his unique sensory experiences and how he feels. By sharing his paintings, he invites people to see the world through his eyes. He is currently growing a supportive community of nearly 3000 art lovers on instagram and continues to create new work from his local home studio.
Welcome to the St. Catharines Art Association Kenji!

SCAA Artist of the Week is Krista McMillan, a contemporary impressionist painter based in Niagara. Krista employs a distinctive style characterized by vibrant colors, dynamic strokes, and textured fingerpainting techniques. Her artistic journey began in childhood, fueled by a fervent passion for art and nature, which has led her to explore various creative pursuits throughout her life.

While balancing the responsibilities of raising three children, Krista began to create large-scale impressionist paintings that depict trees. These works resonate with the essence of the Group of Seven style but offer an innovative perspective. Drawing inspiration from her own photographs taken during wilderness excursions, her artistic practice yields paintings that exude a sense of fluidity and vitality, reflecting the untamed energy of nature.

With each painting sold, Krista is committed to supporting conservation efforts, notably donating to the Bruce Trail and other environmental organizations. This initiative ensures that future generations can continue to find inspiration in the natural world.

SCAA Artist of the Week is Nicki Inch, a mixed media artist working primarily in acrylic.

Nicki's lifelong passion for art has expanded her practice to include collage, using hand-printed papers created on a gel plate. Her work celebrates rediscovery, creativity, gardening and the occasional political commentary.

Nicki was recently chosen as one of the finalists in "Drawn to Niagara", a portrait competition where eight artists paint live portraits of surprise local celebrity models for a chance at the $3,000 "Portrait Artist of the Year" at The Hare Wine Company, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
