New Year and Eid Festival Celebration
On April 5, 2025, THRIVE Community Services Society hosted a vibrant celebration at the Recreational Center in Westminster, BC. The purpose of the event was to bring the community together in joy and unity, marking both the New Year and the cultural significance of Eid. The celebration was attended by more than 100 families and featured a vibrant mix of cultural activities, live music, traditional food, and meaningful conversations among families and community members which made it a memorable and inclusive event.
The event began with a warm and inspiring speech by Miss. Hasina Zaeefi, one of the founders of THRIVE. She spoke about the organization’s mission, goals, and values, emphasizing that THRIVE was created by the community, for the community, and remains deeply committed to serving and empowering local residents.
Miss. Hasina added that one of the main differences between THRIVE and other non-governmental organizations is the presence of a Community Advisory Group. This group is composed of eight men and women from diverse communities, who provide valuable feedback and guidance to THRIVE’s leadership. Their role is to ensure that the organization remains community driven, culturally inclusive, and responsive to the real needs and voices of the people it serves.
The participation of women and children in the event was outstanding. They actively engaged in games, took part in a drawing competition, sang rhymes, and brought vibrant energy to the celebration. In recognition of their wonderful contributions, they were presented with gifts, adding joy and appreciation to the occasion.
