Through the years Kokanee Chalets has become a favorite family campground and hotel. Nestled in its signature grove of timeless cedar trees near Kootenay Lake, the resort provides decompression from the city rat race.

A long time supporter of ESTBA and local trails, Kokanee Chalets is your base camp for an amazing East Shore experience.

Trails update:

Its been a productive week however clearing from the wind event continues.

Open trails for hiking and mountain biking in Crawford Bay include:
Trans Canada 'off hwy' Trail
William Fraser (north end)
Woodlot Trail
Fraser Hill VP trail

The Height of Land Trail (North) and William Fraser Trail (south) have so far not been opened.

You can however access the Summit VP from the Trail Hub on the Height of Land. The trail is open north from there but only to the Spur 200 / microwave tower FSR. From there you'll have to take the road back to the Pilot Point FSR.

The middle section that takes you to the North Spur Rd is not passable at this time.

Thankfully the Woodlot Managers are harvesting fir beetle trees in that area and will help with getting the Height of Land trail clear. No timeline on that.

There is limited access to the North Spur rd and corresponding trails. For the safety of both trail users and the Woodlot Managers. Its not advisable to go into that area without permission from the Woodlot Managers.

We are gearing up to clear the East Shore Viewpoint Trail next week.

If your visiting the East Shore this weekend to do some mountain biking, the Tam O' Tiger area above Riondel is our top recommendation.
This area also features the Historic Waterline Trail.

No word on the Pilot Bay Provincial Park trails and BC Parks plans to get in there. Lots of trees down.

This has been an unprecedented wind event requiring above average chainsaw skills to open trails and days of rerouting.

Have a great weekend!

Clean up from last weeks windstorm continues but is far from over.

The Crawford Peninsula's location on the widest part of the lake makes for some serious exposure for high wind events which affect the recreation trails throughout.

The ESTBA trail crew has made good progress on the Woodlot, William Fraser and Fraser Hill VP Trail. We've made some headway with the Height Of Land but are being presented with unique challenges. There are powerline repair crews and logging operations to navigate as well.

We'll work to fully open up the areas mentioned above next week.

We are in contact with BC Parks regarding the Pilot Bay Park and reports of significant windthrow and downfall.
We don't have the budget to clear BC Parks Trails but we will clear Boomers Landing when we know the trees are cleared in the Park below.

The best place to mountain bike on the East Shore right now is the Tam O' Tiger area above Riondel. Its fully open and no mosquitos!

Recommended hiking also in Riondel is the Historic Waterline Trail.

The Trans Canada Trail 'off HWY' is in good shape thanks to a local volunteer. The Crawford Creek Regional Park is also nice.
