Wachay everyone!
As a Youth Council, we would like to say Chii- Miigwetch to everyone who came out and supported our very first event, Sacred Currents.
This event meant so much to us because we wanted to create something that had never been done before in our community. Weβll admit, there were times when it felt overwhelming, but we were incredibly fortunate to have so many people step up and help. It truly takes a village.
Weβd like to give a few special shout-outs:
𧑠To the GSA Club from the high school β our bi-weekly meetings were so much fun. Thank you for your ideas, creativity, and commitment to helping us bring this event to life.
π To the Taykwa Tagamou Nation programs and staff β thank you for helping with costs and supporting us throughout the event. Thank you for always showing up for our youth.
π To our sponsors β Island Falls Forestry, Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP), and Jazz Solar Systems. Your support helped make this day possible.
π To GIPβs very own Michael Harris β thank you for everything you contributed to this event. You even flew in from Toronto to spend the day with us! Your kindness, support, and willingness to connect with everyone did not go unnoticed.
π To Mush Youth β thank you for your donation of 50 tickets that we were able to give out to youth throughout the day, and for your continued support.
β€οΈ To Omushkego Six Seasons β thank you for bringing all of the amazing Pride merchandise. Everyone loved it! It was wonderful meeting you and seeing your smiles throughout the day.
𧑠To our wonderful cook, Liz Sutherland β thank you for always making sure there is more than enough food for everyone (and enough leftovers to bring home too!). We appreciate all the love you put into your cooking.
π To our sound technician, Conrad Sutherland β thank you for your excellent service and for being there with us throughout the entire day.
π To Monique Bellaire β where do we even begin? You helped us in countless ways and worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We simply could not have pulled this off without you. You are the queen of event planning and organization. THANK YOU.
And lastly, THE YOUTH.
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for sharing your stories, laughter, hugs, and love.
The day was filled with good medicine, connection, and community. Seeing everyone come together reminded us exactly why we wanted to create this event in the first place.
We can't wait for the next one. Pictures from the throughout day are in the link below π₯°
