Advance Care Planning (ACP) is the process of considering what truly matters to you in life and how that impacts your health and personal care.

It helps you communicate your wishes and preferences to those who matter most, ensuring they can help you receive the care you desire.

Your Advance Care Plan is the summary of your wishes or instructions to guide your decision maker when they are asked by a physician or other health care provider to make a health care treatment decision on your behalf - when you can not.

Anyone over the age of 19 years old can do this.

The Advanced Care Planning Day is a national initiative that encourages people to think about, talk about, and share their wishes for future health and personal care.

Each year on April 16th, health organizations, community groups, advocates, and everyday people use ACP Day to start meaningful conversations that ease stress for loved ones, help healthcare teams provide care that reflects what matters to individuals, and help ensure people’s health and personal care choices are heard when it matters most.

Members of the Clearwater & District Hospice Society gathered to learn more about the new specialized “cuddle bed" in the Hospice Room at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital.

Traditionally, it’s been difficult for families to be close to loved ones in hospital beds during their final moments. However, this wonderful “cuddle bed” (the ook snow ALL) can be extended widthwise, allowing family members to be truly close without the barrier of hospital bed railings. It can also be extended lengthwise to accommodate larger or taller patients, making them more comfortable.

The bed is topped with a bariatric mattress that can be customized for each individual patient, taking into account their weight and specific needs. This ensures the correct pressure, support, and movement are maintained for their care.

The Clearwater & District Hospice Society expresses its deepest gratitude to the Wells Grey Community Forest Corporation for their generous grant, which made it possible to purchase this wonderful “cuddle bed” for their hospice room.

We are so grateful to everyone who has supported our “Lights To Remember” fundraising campaign. Each “Light” will be placed on our beautiful Memory Tree at the Quality Inn & Suites foyer, where you can sit quietly and reflect.

The funds raised through “Lights To Remember” are used to purchase supplies and maintain our Hospice Room at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital. This helps us create a space that feels less like a hospital room.

If you weren’t able to come and see us at Buy-Low, you can still support hospice by making an e-transfer of $10 to [email protected] with the names of loved ones.

Each year in November, we hold our annual fundraising at the Buy-Low store, where we sell cards for $10 in memory of loved ones who have died.

Each memory card is placed on our beautiful Memory Tree at the Quality Inn foyer, where you can sit quietly and reflect.

Come on down and support your local hospice. Members of the hospice society will be at Buy-Low each day from today (Tuesday November 18) until November 30, 2025.
