Today, 12 of our members wrapped up a three-day Wilderness First Aid course, completed mostly outdoors. It was a great hands-on course that really makes you think about planning and preparation when heading into the Labrador backcountry—and how to better care for injuries when help is far away.

A great thanks to NL Hydro for supporting this course, our local Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for participating and Blair Doyle & Adam from Adventure and Safety Atlantic for instructing us!

Hopefully, everybody's toes and fingers are warming up now!

Exciting News!

CFSAR Churchill Falls is thrilled to announce the arrival of our brand new drone, the DJI Matrice 30T! This cutting-edge technology will be a great added tool our search and rescue operations in harsh weather conditions, even in temperatures as low as -20⁰C!

Equipped with impressive features like:
- 200x zoom capability
- Thermal camera
- Quick deployment
- Distance laser

Before we put our new drone to use, we're working on developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Procedures to ensure safe and effective operations. We're also recruiting and training more pilots to join our team!

Stay tuned for updates on our drone training and operations! We're excited to leverage this technology to enhance our search and rescue capabilities and better serve our community!

Thanks to Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association, we were able to pass on the ice rescue training to a few more members of our team!

We will complete out training this evening and the public is welcomed to come watch us on the East side of the D**e above town (towards the intake)

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much to all who came out to our AGM this past Monday — it was a great success! We’re excited to introduce your new committee:

President: Jean Healey
Vice-President: Sheldon Boyd
Treasurer: Simon Price
Secretary: Oral Burry

We're also looking for members who are interested in learning more about drones — and maybe even working toward getting their drone licence. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, let us know!

Coming up, we have Ice Rescue Training:

May 12: Classroom session

May 20–21: Evening practical sessions on the ice

Finally, we’ll be kicking off some fundraising efforts to help grow our capacity for training and gear. Every little bit helps, and we’ll share more details soon.

Thanks again for being part of the team!

It was a great weekend of Cold Water rescue training in HVGB, thanks to Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association for facilitating the training of technicians as well as HV-GB Ground Search and Rescue for housing the event! I was great meeting members from Labrador Straits Search and Rescue, Mary's Harbour SAR, HV-GB SAR as well as the great instructors Doug and Tristan from Bonne Bay Search and Rescue - BBSAR and Stephenville Search and Rescue
With our new in-house technicians, we will be able to provide more services for the area and bring more knowledge within the team.

Last night, we went for a little dip in the pool in preparation for ice rescue training from NLSARA coming up at the end of March in Goose Bay. Thanks to Jean Healey for his training last night.

NLSARA will provide the ice rescue training for the teams in Labrador and thanks to HV-GB Ground Search and Rescue who will host the event and provide the freezing water 🥶
