Great news for future entrepreneurs! We’re thrilled to see 1:1 business start up support in the Boundary. Thanks Community Futures Boundary!

A valuable business support service is now available for East Kootenay entrepreneurs. ✨ We’re excited to announce that the Start-Up Business Advisor (SUBA) service has expanded to include our region, thanks to the generous support of ETSI-BC. As more people look to start businesses and build local livelihoods, the need for practical, accessible support has grown too. SUBA was built to meet that demand. Delivered by Community Futures Central Kootenay, in partnership with Community Futures East Kootenay, the program helps entrepreneurs move from idea to implementation with real-world guidance and support. ✔️ 1:1 business coaching ✔️ Help with planning, market validation and financial preparation ✔️ Guidance on launching, operations and sustainable growth ✔️ Support navigating funding opportunities and referrals to other business resources Whether you’re opening a storefront, launching a service-based business or finally pursuing the idea that’s been sitting in your notebook for years, SUBA is designed to help entrepreneurs build businesses that are viable, sustainable and rooted in the Kootenays. Now serving: Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Invermere, Golden, Nelson, Castlegar, Creston, Nakusp, Slocan, Kaslo, Salmo, Trail, Rossland, Fruitvale, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, and rural communities in between. 🏔️ Learn more here → https://futures.bc.ca/start-up-advisor/

Collaboration at it’s best! When the Boundary Mushroom Festival planners approached Christina Gateway for administrative support, we saw the value in their work. Creating a program that integrated arts & science to advance watershed stewardship with a mycology lens supports a healthy environment, educates our community, and brings visitors from across BC. That’s an initiative we’re pleased to be a (small) part of! Congrats to all the project grant recipients!

💧🌿 Congratulations to the successful recipients of the 2026 Boundary Integrated Watershed Service (BIWS) Implementation Grant!

This year, a combined total of $27,000 was awarded to local projects helping protect, understand, and support Boundary region watersheds.

With applications requesting more than double the available funding, the selection process was incredibly competitive — a true reflection of the passion, creativity, and stewardship happening across our communities.

👏 Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

Thirty Years Later: A Comprehensive Evaluation of the 1993 Italy–Sutherland Watershed Plan

From kokanee and amphibians to watershed science, education, and long-term environmental planning, these projects will help deepen our understanding and care of the watersheds that connect our communities. 🌎💙

A huge thank you as well to everyone who took the time to submit an application. The BIWS program is encouraged and inspired by the number of thoughtful, community-driven projects being proposed across the Boundary region.
