FN0198-Recreational - Fin Fish (Other than Salmon) - Halibut - 2026 Halibut Opening and Conditions of Licence starting April 1, 2026

Effective at 00:01 hours April 1, 2026, recreational fishing for Halibut will open coast-wide until December 31, 2026 as follows:

The daily limit will be one (1) halibut per day.

The possession limit is equal to the daily limit.

No person shall retain a Halibut greater than 112 cm head-on length (85 cm pectoral length (head-off)).

Annual Limit:

No person shall catch and retain more than ten (10) halibut in the aggregate from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027

Spiny Dogfish will be closed fo the 2026/27 fishing season. Reminder that also means you cannot cut the up and throw them back.

New scientific advice on Pacific Spiny Dogfish was published in July 2025 through the Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat. Due to conservation concerns about the status of Pacific Spiny Dogfish, coastwide non-retention will be in effect during the 2026-27 recreational fishing season.

Unfortunately the fire hall got double booked and we were the ones who had to find a new venue.

The January 26 GMM and AGM will be UPSTAIRS at the Chemainus Legion at 7pm.

Same date and time, different venue. At this point it is only for the January meeting.

This is an important meeting as we will include the AGM where we will approve the annual budget, elect 8 directors, and discuss the year to come.

I’m sure everyone has seen the proposed hunting changes, here they are if you haven’t.

A couple notable proposals:

Ban on all lead shot.

Cease to publish regulations in a printed book.

I urge you to have a read and comment on anything that you feel the ministry should know.

Good news!! Our trophy committee will be at the chemainus fire hall at 7pm for the meeting tonight!! Bring your weight cards! Bring your antlers! Bring your horns! Bring whatever needs to be scored. He will take it will him tomight, score it, and then let you know when he’s done for pickup or drop off!

Today was what we hope to be a successful day of helping members renew their memberships. We have identified a couple issues that we are reporting back to the BCWF. One of the issues is current members not being listed as having a membership, which wouldn’t be a huge issue since we know they are but when trying to find the Chemainus Rod and Gun on the BCWF list of clubs, we aren’t listed. We also found a member that had a club expiry date of Oct 31, which is not an option. Another member had the wrong email attached to their account. Another member was unable to add family members to their family membership.
We hope all of these will be resolved soon but if you encounter any of them please give us some time to get them resolved.

Mosaic has now closed their gate on the chemainus mainline. This means that the range is closed to all people until mosaic deems it safe enough.
