The land the now Community Hall sits on, was donated by Joe and Esther Zbediak. When It All Started! This information is taken from the first Newsletter (Volume 1, Issue 1) dated Oct 1, 2009. Unknown author. "Let me ask you a simple question. How did this organization get started? Well I went and asked some questions and found out some pretty interesting information. This building was originally a
Church that was located in Brandon, Mb. It sat where the Superstore now sits on the corner of 9th and Victoria Ave. Bill McGregor purchased this Church in 1987 (1986?) for $1.00 ... yes one dollar. He had it moved to Sprucewoods by the Chipmunk Movers in 1988. Their grand opening was in 1990. Don MacDonald started the club and they sought membership for the first three years by going door to door. The land that this building sits was donated by Joe and Esther Zdebiak. The Club held many events like fishing derby's, snowmobile derby's, and dog walks which supported Diabetes and Dreams for Kids. Further donations were given to the Conservation for fish and deer. They made nests for owls and hawks. They bought wild turkey eggs and pheasant eggs which were raised and distributed amongst the Sprucewoods area to increase their population. Deer feeding stations were set up in our cold winters and temperatures were too severe for them to find food. Art Sallows and Bob Andrews found the Blue bird Association. They gathered up young teenagers and built bird houses and distributed them throught our surrounding area. These still stand today." When this article was written, Membership fees were $25 for the year to have full voting rights on decisions regarding the Club. Now, in 2022 the Membership fee is only $10 per person per year. If you want to sign up - please come to the Hall and see Vicki or Darryl during Coffee Time hours.
