"There is a significant percentage of our student population that come from homes experiencing food insecurity." a teacher in Winnipeg Manitoba tells us.
So how can a community get to show up for its children?
At the grocery store, at the school and around the breakfast table.
In the people who volunteer their time, the businesses that give back and in the neighbours who decide to help.
Student nutrition is one of the many ways a community can show up, turning everyday generosity into something a child can experience on a school morning.
And the impact of that support is felt directly in schools.
As a program coordinator in Red Deer, Alberta tells us: “If it weren't for the donations from Make Happy Tummies, we would have to cut back on the number of days we run our Breakfast Program or the quality of our food. We are so grateful for your donations!”.
That’s the heart of Make Happy Tummies.
Communities helping make sure children have what they need to begin the day nourished and ready.
And as that same teacher in Winnipeg shares: “Having guaranteed access to food at school ensures attendance, active participation in school, and increases in student success”
These aren't abstract ideas. They're the experiences of the educators and program leaders seeing the impact in their schools every day. 🩷
