We’re back on the road with our Community Tours program!

SQx is travelling to schools and community spaces, bringing contemporary dance directly into rural communities through performances, workshops, and conversation.

This program is about access, relationship-building, and showing up. Creating space for meaningful exchange outside traditional theatre settings.

We’re grateful to the communities hosting us and excited for another season of movement, learning, and connection.

We enjoyed our time at Spring Forward 2026 in Guimarães, Portugal — the annual Aerowaves platform for emerging contemporary dance.

This 15th edition marks 30 years of Aerowaves and features the Aerowaves Twenty26 selection, with artists from 16 European countries presenting work across four days of performances, discussions, and exchange.

The festival has offered an important opportunity to stay connected to current developments in the European contemporary dance sector, discover new artistic voices, and continue building international relationships and collaborations.

Spring Forward 2026 is presented by Aerowaves and Centro Cultural Vila Flor in collaboration with O Espaço do Tempo, and forms part of the programme for the European Green Capital 2026 Guimarães.

TIDAL WAVE
Upcoming performance: May 8, 2026

A work by Carmen Moreira.

Be transformed as the set transforms. Tidal Wave is a physically demanding piece that demonstrates our complex relationship with the earth, in both struggle and beauty.

Huge thanks to for making this possible 👏

SQx Dance Company has arrived in Ribeira Grande, on the north coast of São Miguel, Azores, for our upcoming performance of Tidal Wave.

Our first days are spent inside Teatro Ribeiragrandense, reworking the piece in a new space. The set—250 kilos of FSC-certified paper structures designed by MOLO—is unpacked, rebuilt, and set into motion again. These forms are not static: they fold, collapse, and expand as the work unfolds, continuously reshaping the stage and the choreography alongside it.

Tidal Wave, choreographed by Portuguese -Canadian artist Carmen Moreira, was originally created on the island of Santa Maria. Returning to the Azores brings the work back into proximity with the landscapes and conditions that informed it. The piece traces a relationship between human bodies and larger forces—nature, industrialization, and resilience—through constant negotiation and change.

We look forward to sharing it here.

Performance: May 9, 2026
Location: Teatro Ribeiragrandense
Tickets: Available at the theatre box office and on Bol.pt

Vilnius, April 22–25

We had the privilege of being present at the Baltic Dance Platform, joining four days of performances, studio presentations, and pitches from across the Baltic region and beyond.

The programme brought together twenty-three selected projects, alongside a wider congress and series of gatherings focused on how dance is responding to questions of identity, belonging, and shifting cultural narratives.

Activity took place across the city at
- Arts Printing House
- MO Museum
- Lithuanian National Drama Theatre
- Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre .lt
- SODAS2123

with space for both public presentation and professional exchange.

We connected with presenters and curators from
- Dublin Dance Festival
- Dansens Hus Oslo
- TANZ_KASSEL
- tanzmainz festival

when you really do rehearse everywhere…

including on a moving boat.

from our time touring in Haida Gwaii—figuring out spacing, timing, and footing while the ground doesn’t stay still. not ideal, but useful.

you pay attention differently.

no studio, no mirrors. just each other and whatever the day gives.

A day of work, cut together.

Warm-up.Spacing.Last checks.Waiting.
Then the performance.

What happens on stage is built from everything before it — the repetition, the adjustments, the time spent getting there.

BIG news!

SQx Dance Company is part of the official selection for APAP|NYC 2026 Works-in-Progress Pitches with our developing work, Hurricane.

Hurricane is an interdisciplinary performance blending contemporary dance and live light painting, exploring the chaotic beauty and destructive power of wind as a metaphor for climate change.

Selected as 1 of 10 artists—and the only Canadian company, we’re grateful to for the opportunity to share this work with presenters and peers from across the field.

📍Pitching on Janaury 10, 2026 from 2:00 - 3:30pm (New York Hilton, West Ballroom)

See you in NYC! 🍎
