Celebrating excellence, innovation, and collaboration at this year’s Conference for Accounting Educators.

We were proud to recognize our teaching award recipients, exceptional educators whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. As mentors and innovators, they play a vital role in shaping the future of the accounting profession in Alberta.

The conversation continued with a dynamic panel featuring Christa Hill, Kayla Tomulka, Annette Fairweather, and Sidney Shapiro, who shared thoughtful perspectives on the evolving landscape of accounting education and practice. With artificial intelligence emerging as a central theme throughout the conference, the panel explored how AI is reshaping the profession and what it means for educators preparing students for a rapidly changing, technology-driven environment.

Together, these moments reinforced the importance of knowledge-sharing and leadership in building a strong and forward-looking profession.

We were honored to welcome two outstanding keynote speakers at this year’s Conference for Accounting Educators.

Mark Parsons, Vice-President and Chief Economist at ATB Financial, delivered valuable insights on Alberta’s economic outlook, sharing his perspective on the impacts of U.S. tariffs and evolving global trends.

We also heard from Christa Hill, AI educator and co-founder of Tacit Edge Product Leadership, AI North, who challenged us to think about artificial intelligence as a leadership capability, not just a tool, and guided us on moving from experimentation to meaningful adoption.

Thank you, Mark and Christa, for helping us better understand the forces shaping the future of the accounting profession.
