Youth in crisis often experience what psychologists call "invisible trauma." The wounds aren't visible, but they run deep.

A backpack doesn't heal trauma. But it sends a powerful message: Someone sees you. Someone cares. You belong.

That message matters more than you might think. For a teen in crisis, it can be the difference between hope and despair and help them smile again.

Belonging isn't just about fitting in. It's about being seen, valued, and supported for who you are and the gifts you bring to your community and the world.

For youth in crisis—facing homelessness, foster care, trafficking, or family breakdown—true belonging feels impossible. They've been told they're problems. Burdens. Unworthy. How can they thrive and shine when their candle never stays lit.

Filled backpacks with love, comfort and essentials are just one small part of belonging AND, it matters. It matters to them.

When a whole community comes together, magic happens. 💙

A HUGE thank you to the Raiders U15 BC 3 White, U13 T1 White, and U7 Icy Hurricanes. This year, they put their hearts together with an incredible Christmas Community Challenge!

34 backpacks. 18 winter packages. One powerful message: Belonging, Dignity and Worthiness!

To every young athlete who packed a backpack with care, who chose items with dignity in mind, who understood the assignment—thank you. You showed these teens that they are important and seen. They belong!

This is what community looks like. We need more of this culture!

A new year = new goals, new direction and a fresh start. But for many youth in crisis, 2026 looks a lot like 2025—uncertain, unstable, lonely.

That's where we come in. A backpack filled with essentials and comfort items is hope. A message that says: You're not alone. You're important. You belong.

In 2026, we're committed to:
🎯delivering more backpacks to Calgary at-risk youth.
🎯building a hub where volunteers can pack backpacks and lead community projects together.
🎯fostering a community of changemakers—foster parents, volunteers, teachers, co-workers, local youth—who spearhead action: build backpacks, lead projects, show Calgary's vulnerable youth they matter.

Dignity isn't a luxury. It's a basic human need.

Yet for vulnerable youth, dignity is often the first thing stripped away. Trash bags instead of backpacks. Hand-me-downs instead of new clothes that fit right. Feeling like a burden instead of a person with value who matters.

We believe every teen deserves to feel dignified. To feel like they belong. This belief drives everything we do. ❤️

During the holidays, it's easy to feel the warmth of belonging—surrounded by family, gifts, traditions. But for many youth in crisis, the holidays are the hardest time. Isolation. Trauma. Uncertainty.

That's what we heard from a partner agency about the teens they serve. Youth in crisis often believe no one sees them. No one cares. They're just a problem to be managed.

Imagine if 2,000 people brewed their favorite coffee drink at home, just once a month for a year, and donated that $5 instead.

That's $10,000 a month in steady, reliable support. Enough to fill 100+ backpacks every month. Enough to reach more vulnerable youth directly in Calgary who desperately need to feel seen and supported.

We're building a community of monthly supporters who believe in dignity for every youth. Small sacrifice. Consistent impact.

Behind every backpack is a community that cares. This week, we're grateful for our partner agencies who are on the front lines supporting youth in crisis every single day.

From Office of the Child & Youth Advocate, Hull Services to Calgary Youth Probation—these organizations are working one-on-one with teens every day to ensure they feel seen and heard. They show up for them and fight for their dignity, mental health and belonging within their communities.
