The Calgary Domestic Violence Collective (CDVC) is a collective of close to 60 community partners that provides a coordinated response to domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention in Calgary. Established more than 30 years ago, the CDVC works collaboratively with community partners to educate community members on the issues surrounding, and impact from, the crimes of domestic and se

xual violence against individuals. Through increased public awareness, education and improved legislation, we are working towards decreasing the incidences of, and tolerance to, these crimes. The goal of the CDVC is to emphasize the role that everyone needs to take towards changing behaviours and attitudes around domestic and sexual violence so to end these crimes in our communities. Domestic and sexual violence are crimes that cross all professions, socioeconomic and cultural boundaries. Organizations and agencies in all sectors, be it government, business, the media or the arts. Action on domestic and sexual violence is no longer just in the realm of non-for-profit charities – it’s a collective problem requiring collective solutions. If you are a victim of domestic violence or sexual abuse, we urge you to call 911 or the Connect Family and Sexual Abuse Network at 403.237.5888. There are people who care and who are there to help, guide and support. In fact, Alberta has one of the highest rates of family and sexual violence in Canada and the problem is acute within our city. The Calgary Police Service responds to more than 16,500 domestic violence related calls each year, with 85 per cent of those calls being from women. The time has come for us to unite and break the silence on domestic violence. Please join us in our mission. Our Story

Alberta has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Canada. In Calgary, police receive more than 18,000 domestic conflict calls per year and one in five of them involve some form of physical violence.

The Calgary Domestic Violence Collective (CDVC) is an organic collective comprised of more than 70 community partners whose purpose is to identify and support high-impact opportunities, share knowledge and influence norms, practices, programs and policies related to domestic violence prevention.

As a collective, we are stewards of a movement based on relationships and a common agenda. We are not bound by structure or hierarchy – in fact, adaptability is our essence; allowing us to embrace new and emergent ideas.
