Today is Reptile and Amphibian Awareness Day! 🐍 🐸 🦎

The Nose Creek valley is the only place in Calgary with confirmed sightings of the Plains Garter Snake (pictured). The creek valleys are also home to other species such as Common Garter Snakes, Western Tiger Salamanders and the occasional Boreal Chorus frog.

The best time to see snakes in the valley is in the spring where they can often be seen basking in the sun on rocky areas in warmer afternoons after emerging from their hibernaculums where they've had their winter sleep.

Thank YOU for all your support the last year and for those that could attend our AGM today! It was a great moment to reflect on all that we have done in the last year from Jane's Walks, to Bird Counts, to W**d pulls, Creek Watch and everything in between! We will continue to advocate for Nose Creek and are excited for the year ahead.

We also wanted to thank Ross from for being our guest speaker and sharing all about the fish inventory that was done this year and other projects around Fish Creek!

We invite you all to join us for our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, September 28th from 1-2:30pm at the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre (Studio 3)! We are going to be sharing updates on what all has happened in the last year and we also have some new and exciting opportunities to join our Board of Directors.

In spite of our efforts and the comments from the community for more green space and less development in the Naato'siyinnipi (Formerly the Aurora) Area Structure Plan, City Council unanimously approved the proposal in its current state.

Although this was not the desired outcome and will be a huge loss to Ward 3, we are thankful that the area immediate to West Nose Creek remains parkland and hope that the environmental open study areas will be added to the overall green space.

We will continue to watch this space for any future changes but wanted to thank the community and all the citizens who attended the engagement sessions, wrote to their city councillors, submitted comments for the public hearing, and spoke in front of City Council.

We hope that with our voice and support from the community we can continue to advocate for the protection of our natural green spaces surrounding Nose Creek.

On September 9th, the Naato'siyinnipi (Aurora) Area Structure Plan is going for its final vote for approval to City Council and we need your help to get the plan revised to include MORE GREEN SPACE! The current plan prioritizes developed land and significantly reduces the green space available for the community and for wildlife around West Nose Creek.

We are asking for everyone to write to their councillor, the mayor, and provide your feedback to their current proposal for the city council meeting on September 9th before it gets approved! It is NOT too late to make a change.
