Justin Hopkins-Jones, 37, was charged with second-degree murder on May 31, 2026, after a 47-year-old man was shot dead at a condo complex in the 5400-block of Brydon Crescent in Langley City. This is not Hopkins-Jones's first encounter with serious violence. His record spans nearly a decade and crosses three provinces, with two murder charges and a documented domestic violence incident involving a vehicle used as a weapon.

Shortly before midnight on May 26, Langley RCMP responded to reports of shots fired in the 5400-block of Brydon Crescent. Officers and first responders located a wounded 47-year-old man and attempted aid, but he died at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team assumed conduct of the investigation within hours. IHIT investigators interviewed witnesses, pieced together the events leading up to the shooting, and arrested Hopkins-Jones on May 30. The second-degree murder charge was formally approved the following day.
IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong stated the arrest was made possible by witnesses who came forward and by close coordination between IHIT and policing partners across the Lower Mainland. Investigators have described the killing as an isolated incident in which the accused and the victim were known to one another.

Less than a year before the Langley shooting, Hopkins-Jones was facing a murder charge in Kamloops. At approximately 5:08 a.m. on September 27, 2025, Kamloops RCMP were called to the 700-block of Notre Dame Drive after a man was found seriously injured near a bus shelter. Jason Pinette, 39, was transported to hospital in critical condition and did not survive. Hopkins-Jones was identified as the suspect, arrested, and charged with second-degree murder on October 8, 2025.
The charge did not proceed to trial. On March 27, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service stayed the charge against Hopkins-Jones, stating there had been a material change in circumstances meaning the charge assessment standard was no longer met. Pinette's family and the Kamloops community had no further recourse through the courts in connection with his death.

Nine years ago, Calgary police documented a violent domestic incident involving Hopkins-Jones. At approximately 9 p.m. on August 24, 2017, a pickup truck Hopkins-Jones was driving passed through an intersection in the community of Chaparral when a woman exited the moving vehicle and fell onto the roadway. The vehicle drove over her.
Hopkins-Jones then stopped, got out, and attempted to force her back inside the truck. Bystanders on scene physically intervened to stop him. He fled before police arrived. Officers located him and attempted a traffic stop, but he evaded them.
Hopkins-Jones, then 28, surrendered to Calgary police on September 4, 2017. He was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer, and seven counts of failing to comply with a court order.

Hopkins-Jones is next scheduled to appear in court on June 5, 2026, in connection with the Langley second-degree murder charge.

Christopher Chiappe, 47, has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to damage property, and theft under $5000. He was transported to jail and released with conditions with a court hearing scheduled for June 8.

Charges have been recommended after VPD arrested a man for allegedly threatening a convenience store worker with a knife.

On May 29, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to a report of a shoplifter threatening someone with a knife outside a downtown convenience store on Granville and Drake. The suspect was allegedly confronted outside the store by the worker for allegedly stealing a box of cookies and then threatening to vandalize his car. When the worker attempted to intervene, the suspect reportedly brandished a knife. Police located the suspect a block away and arrested him without incident.

Chiappe was also arrested for assault at an East Vancouver shelter on May 25 for allegedly kicking a man repeatedly in the head.

66-year-old David Michael Keogh 8s being charged with s*xually exploiting a youth has a provincial court history spanning more than two decades and multiple jurisdictions across British Columbia.

David Michael Keogh was arrested on May 30, 2026, following an investigation by the Surrey Police Service Major Crime Section Child Protection Team. The investigation began in mid-May 2026 after reports were received of an adult suspect allegedly s*xually exploiting and s*xually assaulting a youth. Charges were sworn the same day as his arrest.

๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜€

Keogh faces one count each of s*xual assault, luring, invitation to s*xual touching, s*xual exploitation, and s*xual interference under the Criminal Code. He has been remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.

A search of BC court records reveals Keogh has accumulated 59 provincial court entries dating back to at least 2000, with appearances spanning Delta, Surrey, Vancouver, Kelowna, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, and Nanaimo. Visible charge details from two files show theft under $5,000 -- one from Kelowna in 2007 and one from Langley in 2024, the latter being the most recently active file prior to his May 2026 arrest.

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM, a youth sitting on a bench near the children's playground at Morgan Crossing was randomly pepper sprayed by an unknown Caucasian male teenager. A second teenager, positioned near Menchie's, allegedly recorded the incident on a cellphone before both suspects fled the area.

People in the area immediately stepped in to assist the victim before emergency crews arrived. One key witness helped the youth, remained at the scene, and contacted the family. Another woman repeatedly brought water to help flush the spray from the victim's eyes and skin, while a man purchased baby shampoo from Thrifty Foods to help wash away the pepper spray.

Leonard Krekic, a former registered massage therapist who practiced in Surrey, White Rock, and Penticton, has been found guilty on 12 of 13 counts of s*xual assault against multiple patients spanning more than two decades.

Justice Lance Bernard rendered the decision on May 27 in BC Supreme Court in New Westminster, concluding a 35-day trial. The charges covered conduct alleged to have occurred at or near Surrey between December 30, 1994 and April 25, 2017. Publication bans are in effect protecting the identities of all victims and witnesses.

Surrey RCMP initially announced eight s*xual assault charges against Krekic in 2023, related to allegations involving at least eight patients between 2001 and 2017. He was working out of a clinic on 136A Street in Surrey as well as two clinics in Penticton at the time. Prosecutors later added five additional counts, bringing the total to 13.

Before the criminal case reached court, the College of Massage Therapists of BC conducted its own proceedings. Six patients described unwanted s*xual touching during the disciplinary process, including Krekic placing his hands under their underwear, massaging their ge****ls and breasts, pressing his groin against them, and inserting his fingers into one woman's a**s.

The disciplinary panel also found Krekic had pursued a close personal relationship with a much younger patient for financial gain, hugged patients without consent, drew them into faith-based conversations, and prayed over them during appointments. In total, the college found him responsible for 27 acts of professional misconduct, seven of unprofessional conduct, 11 bylaw violations, and 14 ethics code violations.

The committee noted Krekic had engaged in repeated misconduct with different patients sometimes within days of each other, and on at least one occasion on the same day.

His college lawyers noted he had never genuinely acknowledged what he did, with the panel stating it was "difficult to imagine a respondent who has shown less insight and acknowledgment of their misconduct."

In December 2022, the college banned Krekic from registering as a massage therapist until January 1, 2048, and ordered him to pay fines and costs totalling $105,952.51. The college described it as one of the most serious misconduct cases it had ever handled.

Krekic remains out on bail conditions prohibiting any employment or volunteer work involving physical contact or therapeutic treatment. He is due back in court on June 4, 2026 to fix a date for sentencing. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Coquitlam RCMP file 2026-12958:

An elderly Coquitlam man was physically assaulted, forcibly confined, and robbed inside his own home by a suspect who showed up dressed to look like a police officer.

The incident happened on May 22, 2026, in the 2700 block of Nadina Drive, off Mariner Way. According to the victim, he was asleep when he woke to find a stranger already inside his residence. He was assaulted and confined. The suspect then took his cell phone, credit cards, and vehicle before leaving. The victim freed himself and reported what happened to police two days later.

What makes this case particularly alarming is how the suspect presented himself. He was wearing a dark baseball hat bearing the RCMP name and logo, and had a lanyard around his neck with an emblem or badge and clothing designed to suggest he was a law enforcement officer. Earlier the same day, he had approached one of the victim's neighbours while posing as a tradesperson, asking questions about the elderly man and his home.

"While this individual was not a police officer, the use of police-related clothing is troubling," said Sgt. Adriana O'Malley of Coquitlam RCMP.

The suspect is described as:

Caucasian male
muscular and rotund
approximately 5'10 to 5'11
250 pounds
clean shaven.
He was wearing black rimmed glasses
a white short-sleeved collared golf shirt
blue and white running shoes
tan leather gloves.

He is believed to still be in possession of the victim's vehicle: a green 2022 Hyundai Kona with BC licence plate AWE311. Anyone who sees this vehicle is asked not to approach it and to call 911 immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and reference file number 2026-12958.

Designated dangerous offender Tyler Gordon Strathdee, 37, is back behind bars after Vancouver Police arrested him on May 21 on a Canada-wide warrant alleging he breached the conditions of his statutory release. VPD's District 5 Officers took him into custody at his Downtown Eastside halfway house, where he remains pending further proceedings.

Strathdee is serving an 11-year, two-month federal sentence for multiple violent offences committed in Alberta, including robbery, assault with a weapon, s*xual assault, and manslaughter. His sentence is scheduled to expire in 2028.

Strathdee has spent most of his adult life behind bars, accumulating 38 criminal convictions for offences revealing a pattern of steadily escalating violence dating back to 2007.

In 2019, an Alberta judge formally designated him a Dangerous Offender following his conviction for a 2015 s*xual assault, after two independent mental health professionals assessed him and reached the same conclusion: Strathdee is a psychopath. Both experts independently scored him 33 out of a possible 40 on a standardized psychopathy checklist, well above the threshold of 30. A separate risk assessment identified a very high probability of violent reoffending.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice John Little found the evidence supported a conclusion of high or very high risk of reoffending, violently and otherwise, noting Strathdee's psychopathy included an inability to feel empathy and poor, though not non-existent, prospects for treatment.

The s*xual assault underlying the dangerous offender application occurred on March 11, 2015, just four days after Strathdee had been released on bail.

Vancouver Police first issued a public warning about Strathdee in December 2024, when he obtained statutory release and chose to reside at a Vancouver halfway house. Conditions of his release included prohibitions on alcohol and drugs, no involvement with criminal associates, no contact with s*x trade environments, and mandatory disclosure of relationships with women to parole authorities.

He was re-arrested in February 2025 and charged with robbery in connection with a Downtown Eastside incident, but was ultimately acquitted in BC Provincial Court. Vancouver Police issued a second public warning in November 2025 when he again obtained statutory release and returned to Vancouver. Police have consistently stated Strathdee poses a significant risk of harm and is at high risk of committing further physical and s*xual violence.

In the early morning hours of February 22, 2015, a group entered a downtown Edmonton apartment where a violent confrontation erupted. Deng Tong was fatally stabbed and three other victims, Peter Akuai, Abdullahi Are, and Hassan Dahir, suffered serious stab injuries. The Crown alleged at trial the attack was carried out in retaliation for the earlier beating of another man.

Strathdee was charged with:

Court of Queen's Bench Justice J.H. Goss acquitted Strathdee of second-degree murder, finding the Crown had not proved beyond a reasonable doubt he caused Tong's death. The judge noted serious credibility and reliability concerns with all witnesses who testified about events inside the apartment, a number of whom were under the influence of drugs or alcohol and had significant criminal records of their own.

He was convicted on all three counts of aggravated assault as a party to the offence, based on findings of his participation in the group attack and his own admission of fighting inside the apartment.

The Crown appealed the homicide acquittal. The Alberta Court of Appeal found the trial judge had erred in her application of the law governing joint participation, holding she should have assessed Strathdee's liability as a joint principal given her own finding of a group assault, and the Crown was not required to prove he personally delivered the fatal wound. The acquittal was set aside and a conviction for manslaughter substituted.

Strathdee appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada. In R. v. Strathdee (2021 SCC 40), the Court dismissed the appeal and affirmed the manslaughter conviction, agreeing there was no basis for treating the fatal stabbing as a distinct act outside the scope of the group attack. His aggravated assault convictions were upheld throughout all proceedings.

Stewart McLean, a 45-year-old Edmonton-born actor known to Virgin River viewers for his appearance in the Netflix drama's seventh season, has been found dead in Lions Bay in what police are investigating as a homicide. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed McLean's remains on May 22, 2026, following a week-long missing person search.

Stewart McLean was last seen at his residence in Lions Bay on May 15, a small Sea-to-Sky community roughly 20 kilometres northwest of Vancouver. The missing person report was filed May 18, and the case escalated quickly after investigators uncovered evidence leading them to hand the matter to IHIT.

IHIT did not elaborate on what evidence had prompted the transfer, saying only investigators believe McLean's death was an isolated incident. No cause of death has been officially disclosed. The BC Coroners Service is involved alongside Integrated Forensic Identification Services.

Investigators confirmed Stewart McLean's remains were found near rail tracks across the street from his Lions Bay home. RCMP and police dog services were seen searching the Brunswick Beach area in the days prior to the discovery.

IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Esther Tupper said in a release: "As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Stewart McLean's activities prior to May 15, 2026. We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Stewart McLean."

McLean worked steadily in the Vancouver film and television industry starting around 2015, accumulating 36 credits over an 11-year career. His television credits included Virgin River, Murder in a Small Town, Happy Face, Arrow, Supernatural and The 100. Stewart McLean's final screen appearance was as a barfly in season 7 of Netflix's Virgin River, which premiered in March 2026.

His agent Jodi Caplan of Lucas Talent said the agency was devastated, describing Stewart McLean as a well respected and admired member of the film and television community in Vancouver.

Actor and acting coach Jeff Seymour, who had taught Stewart McLean and later counted him as a close friend, spoke to media on Friday. Seymour said McLean had recently flown to Los Angeles to spend a week shooting a feature film Seymour had written specifically with him in mind. The Virgin River actor had been due to shoot something the Saturday after he disappeared, and had checked in with everyone Friday night to finalize details. He never showed up the following morning.

Seymour described Stewart McLean as a straight arrow and said he cannot imagine what could have happened. "It's so crushing, and it hits me in ways I'll suddenly think, ah, Stu, and I realize I can't call him now. Everybody loved this guy."

No suspect has been publicly named. The investigation into the death of Virgin River actor Stewart McLean remains active and ongoing.
