What a great turnout at our open house!
Many guests and our club members enjoyed the meeting and most importantly learned how to write a speech in 15 minutes! We were all impressed by Lou Mulligen’s workshop!

What an eventful meeting this past Thursday!
Starting with our club’s humorous speech contest where Giulia Bortoletto, Mary Ann Wagstaff and Judi Deverlie, DTM competed by telling their funny stories and entertained the audience! Giulia and Mary Ann won the contest and they will move to the Area D84 Humorous Speech Area Contest! 🥳 We thank all the participants of the contest and all the club members who took on roles.
We also celebrated the receipt of the ribbon for the “Smedley Distinguished Club” award that FBTM received for the year 2025-2026. The current and past club president proudly pinned it to our FBTM banner. 👏
Very well done First Burlington Toastmasters!
Looking forward to next week when we will host our open house and workshop by Lou Mulligen “How to write a speech in 15 minutes”.

Toastmasters Club members work on their prepared speeches and present them to the club. How will they know though if their speech was effective or if there’s room for improvement? 🤔 thanks to the evaluator! Every prepared speech has an evaluator who attentively listens to them and give them constructive feedback!
This week our Judi evaluated Alyssa’s speech and shared her thoughts and suggestions!
What a great teamwork 🤝💪🏻

“Pause and “punch” ”. That’s what Guy Tripp taught us with his speech tonight. When speaking, pauses are important to grab one’s attention. Once you grabbed it, “punch” the word that you want your listener to remember! One way of “punching” the word is raising your voice when you are saying the word.
Thank you Guy for your effective speech, we can all always learn something from you!

Interesting world of the month! 🤔
Often though we associate “bold” with a groundbreaking act, something out of the ordinary… guess what! At Toastmasters everyone is bold when they start speaking. Whether is to introduce themselves as guests or to perform a role… WE ARE ALL BOLD! 💪🏻 Because we are one step ahead in conquering our fears and improving our skills.

Meet Sana - her story is an incredible one! Do you see the small orchid next to her? This is to celebrate her first year with FBTM and her first time taking up the Toast Master role to lead a whole meeting!

She was (and may still be) very shy when she joined First Burlington TM, but we’ve witness her grow and gradually come out of her comfort zone.

Over the year she’s learned to tame her fears, well a bit, so she says - taking on new roles and challenging herself every step of the way. Though she claims she still has a long way to become a confident public speaker, we sure are impressed with her growth!
