Every Fall, volunteer SAR K9 teams meet in Merritt to revalidate through the RCMP to ensure they can continue operating as an official BC Search Dog unit. We are happy to say that Houston's K9 team successfully passed their wilderness validation test again. We are hoping to have more SAR K9 units in Northern BC, but we also understand it takes a lot of consistent training hours (about 1,500 per year) to reach this level.

On May 23rd, Houston SAR participated alongside Bulkley Valley Search and Rescue and many other first responder agencies in a coordinated, multi-agency MOCK “Mass Casualty Event” at Smithers Regional Airport, simulating an aircraft incident. This well-structured exercise offered valuable training opportunities and reinforced collaborative emergency response efforts. We extend our sincere appreciation to the organizers for their meticulous planning, and for including Houston SAR in this essential learning experience.
