But this Saturday October 17th is International Repair Day. Come join us at Broad Cove Hall, anytime between 1-4pm.

On Saturday 17 October, we celebrate International Repair Day for the tenth time, with this year’s theme: Repairing Unites People.

Repair Day is a yearly celebration for anyone with a soft spot for repairing: it connects people, benefits the planet, and helps people learn new skills. Hundreds of events are already on the map worldwide, from an XL Repair Café in Bühl to repair festivals in Vienna and textile workshops in Derby.

Do you have a hole in jeans that needs fixing, a sock or knitted item in want of repair, a worn quilt, or a stuffed toy that needs some TLC? We have menders who can either do the repair (by hand or machine), show you how or diagnose the issue so it can be fixed at a later date. (Note: if you need a special part, such as a zipper to fix a broken one, please bring the replacement part with you.)

Loose legs on a table? Dried glue on a wooden toy?
One of our volunteer fixers might be able to help with it!

Feel free to bring a small furniture item (e.g. a broken chair or stool with a loose rung), a broken wooden toy or other small item. We'll see what we can do to fix it or diagnose what more it needs.

Do you have a computer that uses Windows 10?
While extended support for Windows 10 keeps getting extended -- new date is October 12, 2027 -- don't get caught by the deadline!

Although your computer running Windows 10 will still function on that date, it will no longer receive security updates/fixes, nor will Microsoft customer service be available to provide tech support for your Windows 10 system. Without continued software and security updates, your computer will be at a greater risk for viruses and malware.

So... does that mean you have to buy a new computer? No, it doesn't!!! If you bought your computer after 2010, you can make it fast and secure again by having an up-to-date Linux operating system.

Installing an operating system may sound difficult, but you don't have to do it alone. Come to the Repair Cafe at Broad Cove Hall on Saturday October 17th, between 1-4pm, and let our volunteer fixers help you!

Whether it’s fixing a favorite toy, replacing a kitchen appliance part, or creating missing hardware for furniture, 3D provides new opportunities for repair restoration. Our volunteer, Theo, can make you a design for a replacement part for a broken piece on equipment, such as a k**b or handles), a battery cover, broken limbs on action figures, and more. You can then take the file to the Margaret Hennigar Library in Bridgewater to have the part printed for the nominal cost of printing.

The countdown is ON for the next Repair Cafe in Lunenburg County: Saturday October 17th, 1-4pm, at Broad Cove Hall.

This event features something unique: a "surfboard repair" station! If you have a "ding" on your board, surfer Dave will be able to assess the board, then you can work together until it's no longer a problem!

The Broad Cove Repair Café will also have a box for donations of non-perishable food. If possible, please consider bringing items to support the Greater Petite Area Community Pantry. Thanks!

On Saturday September 19th, we had a Repair Cafe at the Lunenburg Library. It was a beautiful day! Here are the stats:
* 58 items fixed (out of 74)
* 23 guests with items to be fixed (and more guests who dropped by to see what it's all about)
* 17 volunteers helped make the day happen!

Several of the fixes were either partially or totally worked on by the guests themselves. Of the items that couldn't be fixed, guests learned what items were beyond help, what parts they'd need to fix others, and some were making plans to finish fixing items themselves later.

Also happy to share this other inspiring moment: A pair of sibling teens learned how to punch holes and install eyelets to fix the strap of a messenger bag to better fit, and their mom later told our volunteer they were so hyped by their accomplishment, they're now asking to get tools of their own.

Thank you to South Shore Public Libraries for hosting the event, and to everyone for the great interest in prolonging the life of beloved items! We can't wait to see you at the next Repair Cafe!

We are so proud to have participated in the Canadian Repair Convention, held in Halifax last week! Etienne Baqué represented our team as a panelist in the "Community Empowerment and Repair" discussion. The two-day event was an excellent opportunity for sharing of ideas and resources, discussing barriers and opportunities for the repair movement, as well as networking with other repair enthusiasts from across the country! Time well spent. 👨‍🔧🛠️👩‍🔧
