32 Bridge Street Update

If there’s one thing this summer has taught us, it’s that construction is not for the faint of heart!

We’ve hit our fair share of roadblocks and unexpected delays over the past few months. There have been moments of frustration, timelines that have shifted, and days when it felt like we were taking two steps forward and one step back. And yes, those delays have pushed our anticipated occupancy further than we ever wanted.

When you’re building something that means so much to so many people, waiting is hard. Especially when you know there are women and families waiting for a place to call home.

But here’s the good news: we’ve worked through the barriers, the pieces are coming together, and we are finally seeing the finish line. The building is taking shape, the details are coming together, and the excitement of welcoming our future tenants is getting very real.

Projects like this are a reminder that doing something meaningful doesn’t always mean doing something easy. Sometimes it means navigating the messy middle, finding solutions, pushing through the frustration, and keeping your eyes on the reason you started in the first place.

32 Bridge Street is worth every hurdle. Because at the end of all this construction, we aren’t just opening a building. We’re creating homes, community, and a fresh start for women who deserve a safe place to land.

Shared Ground. A Conversation Worth Sharing.

Housing and homelessness. Mental health and substance use. Community safety. The wellbeing of our most vulnerable residents.

These were the focus of Shared Ground, a community dialogue that brought together mayoral candidates from the City of Brantford and County of Brant to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing our communities.

On October 15, a full house gathered at the Brantford Public Library for a thoughtful and respectful conversation hosted by five local community service organizations. Designed as a dialogue rather than a debate, the evening provided candidates with an opportunity to share their perspectives, priorities, and approaches to these complex issues.

With the municipal election approaching October 26, we're pleased to share the recorded conversation, giving voters across Brantford and Brant County an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and better understand their plans for our community.

Our sincere thanks to Erin Dej, Associate Professor of Criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University, and Dr. Carrie Sanders, Professor of Criminology at Laurier and Director of the Centre for Research on Security Practices, for serving as moderators. We also thank the participating candidates and everyone who joined us for the evening.

October is a time to recognize the achievements, strength and resilience of women throughout history and in our communities today.

While progress has been made, many women continue to face barriers to equality, financial security and access to safe, affordable housing. For women and women-led families, finding a stable place to call home can be an important step toward building independence, security and new opportunities.

That's why initiatives like 32 Bridge Street matter. Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes Corporation is working to create 24 affordable homes for women and women-led families right here in Brantford. With plans for a Community Hub and a social enterprise laundromat café, the project also aims to encourage connection and strengthen the wider community.

A home is more than a roof over your head. It's a foundation from which people can build their lives, pursue opportunities and look toward the future with greater confidence.

This Women's History Month, we celebrate how far women have come and recognize the importance of continuing to build a future where every woman and family has the opportunity to feel safe, supported and at home. 🏠💜
