It was a long weekend in BC. I used the time to share spa yoga practices, reframe how to practice gratitude, have hysterical giggle fits with Hana, visit her newborn cousin 🤍🤍, hug my mom, admire the rainbows of leaves on the trees, look up, acknowledge that I don’t have to celebrate ‘holidays’ in a way that meets anyone’s expectations, run outside again, swim with Hana, decorate the house with ‘do not enter’ signs with Hana and of course, love myself. I feel that today is only for music — the simplicity of song, to let it all simmer and assimilate.
So I made us a playlist ‘just love me’, to let it all anchor into the wisdom of the heart.
Basically it’s sooooooo goooood.🍂🍁
Sending lots of love to everyone out there ❤️

Excited to announce the ‘not a challenge' challenge! Coming your way Oct 4-8th. This is going to be healing on a seasonal & soul level. It's the simple tools that lead us back to ease.

It's tough to begin a meditation practice or make time for it, even when we know how important it is. In this short & sweet 5-Day Series, "Reconnect", I cannot wait for us to reconnect to self, to simplicity, to clarity and to this moment.

From Oct 4-8th, a 6-minute audio meditation is sent to your inbox each day, with journal prompts for extra reflection & a special live zoom practice together on Day 5 (mark your calendar for 8am PST on Oct 8th)!

Day 1 | Intentions
Day 2 | Breathing
Day 3 | Relaxation
Day 4 | Awareness
Day 5 | Community (group zoom practice)

Today is the autumnal equinox - an auspicious day that marks the end of summer, yet the beginning of fall. A true turning point. 🍂
In this part of the world, we are walking towards the day where light & dark are equal in length. Darker days are coming. Change is upon us, and so it goes.
There’s something so potent about changing seasons. There's a specialness in their lessons around transition. With every shift, I give thanks for nature's stark reminders that change is constant. This earthy truth that change never ends is like a homecoming. Seasons changing is my coming home.
You and I may not be close, you may not be experiencing seasonal change right now but you can imagine these lessons from nature (in you already, cause you're nature too).
There's a homecoming for each of us, no matter how unbearably dark it has become, there is light on the other side.
At today's turning point, in my forest, there is so much richness, tangible aliveness, brilliant colours, and the freshest, most dense air to fill me up and exemplify how beautiful change is.
Funny how much of life there can be, in preparation for the decay. Feels like a most beautiful home to me.
"Please come home,
you and you and you and me.
Thank you Earth for welcoming us,
and thank you touch of eyes and ears and skin,
touch of love for welcoming us.
May we wake up and remember who we truly are.
Please come home."

Being asked to officiate a wedding is an honour, it's a true gift of trust. I didn't overthink it, until it was over. In the best way possible. I'm joyfully overthinking: intentional connections with the solid community the couple brought together, a commitment to celebrating in nature, the love and care they put into each choice, their easygoing approach, quiet acts of love to each other, all are memories I'll revel in for weeks to come.

Hana was the ring pusher / dress train fixer. A crescent moon held us from above. Wind was all around, a promise of change. I was given direction to talk about shadows, uncertainties and magic. I danced one dance, to Whitney, while Hana slept in the booth.

Thank you for trusting me and for bringing us all together in celebration. Thank you for allowing us all to show up for you. Although it's bittersweet to see it come to an end, I know this is what we are here for, the beginnings & endings. We can't fight the changes or the potential for it. We are in relationship with changing people, circumstances and thoughts all the time - the question is: who and what will we commit to? Will we commit to showing up for the party and for the comedown? What if we could be exquisitely present to whoever is in front of us, no matter how uncomfortable? Can we honour the flash of a bright day when it comes after the dark of the unknown?

Thank you for reminding us of beginnings, Brit & Alix ( & ). And thank you for a perfectly healing bright day.
Overthinking these truths is where I need to be right now. In trust. I need to remain committed to my relationship with trust & the magic of this very moment. The teachings are everywhere.

Research shows us that what happens in childhood is everything. And, our brains and bodies can change at any age. Yet as children, our brains absorb & mimic all that they perceive with extra precision. As children, our bodies adapt to keep us feeling safe and protected from harm or pain, in the easiest way possible. Childhood matters.
This is not a plea to love our children. Love alone will not protect them. Seeing their caregivers move swiftly through struggles will. Hearing caregivers acknowledge mistakes with kindness will. Watching caregivers help others in need will. Knowing it’s safe to have emotions & setbacks will. Forgiveness & self-care will. Love is not enough. On top of the situational resolutions, we all needed dancing, singing, playing, inclusivity, belonging, openness much more than we received and we still do.
It may seem sad that society erodes some of our childlike qualities. It may seem like we have destroyed the purity of the planet and humanity for our future generations. But what if we stepped up and nurtured qualities outside the norm in our children? It's a challenge because it requires a huge paradigm shift on our part, as adults. We will need to be prepared for more laughs, more curiosity, more dancing, singing, play, joy, affection and in-the-moment eruptions of emotion. In this shift, we will also need to push against the conditioning of mistrusting our own wisdom. We will need to be different.
It's not just about love. It's about returning to what we really are.
This brief visit to earth must be about more than working the same job for a lifetime, only to die upon reaching retirement.
Our 'reality' can look different.
Our brains & bodies can adapt and change at any age. We are designed for this.
Are we choosing LIFE for our children?
Are we listening to the inner child that still calls to be seen and heard?
Are we willing to overlook some of the 'rules' that have led us here?
They are sponges. We all are. Children deserve to be filled with wondrous truths about a beautiful planet filled with creative, open-hearted humans, in total co-creation with others & passion & nature. And so do you. We become what we are told.

Change is inspiring. After the fact, I’m able to see this truth. It's easy for me to resist it, but jumping into life’s changes has led me to beautiful collaborations and many opportunities to grow over the years...

Change has also brought about some harsh realizations and sad endings. But growth and change need this kind of openness. It’s a territory where anything & everything can occur… possibility.

When we feel overwhelmed and anxious, we close ourselves off to others & our environment. Inviting a deeper breath slows stimulated brainwaves and the heartbeat—it tells the body that we are safe to stay open and receive. These are a few things I love to share with others through practical tools.

“Healthy communities require strong individuals. Strong individuals require a healthy community. When we compromise either one, both begin to suffer.” Francis Weller
This month’s mindfulness series has a special emphasis not only on receiving gentleness into our own hearts & minds, but on giving and returning the sentiments outwards.
Offering sentiments of kindness and tenderness in return, will fuel new and better actions, in time.
Receiving and giving. In breath and out breath. The practices are for the individual, but mostly for us all. For everything.
🌏 We begin tonight 🍃🌱

Goals tend to set us up for either success or failure. Strict goal-setting may prevent us from remembering to be present...
06/07/2021

Goals tend to set us up for either success or failure. Strict goal-setting may prevent us from remembering to be present along the way to a future accomplishment. A goal's narrow scope may leave us without direction, after the milestone has been reached. Our lives include subconscious & overt goals, which are accompanied by unavoidable achievements and setbacks. But the drive to be the best has become an obsession and many of us miss the opportunities to be present. We obsess over our past mistakes when we miss the goal. And we race past the simple little pleasures in the name of success.
But what if there were a way to be totally immersed & committed to the entire journey, the process of life itself, rather than investing only in one final goal? What If we wrapped each day in a simple, personal intention - might that be enough to guide us through? Might a brief intention - phrased in the present moment and held in kindness - support a more mindful & gracious process?
Intentions can infuse our thinking minds with clarity and our hearts with knowing. You'll know you're on track when the people around you inspire your process of growth. You'll know when you feel like you're on the fringes of the norm - shaky because it's an unconventional way to live, yet fully grounded in your need to be in the moment. You'll know when your intention changes with ease and understanding, because you too, are changing.
Foregoing goals altogether may not work within the system we live in, but can we see how they might blindside us from the possibilities that exist beyond this narrow / linear trajectory? With an intention, we can have our goal in mind, stay attuned to our innermost guidance and remain anchored when life has other plans.
Life will always have other plans. But it doesn't matter where we are headed. The gold is right here and now. In what your body asks for. In how your mind perceives a challenge. In how you embrace your most unloved parts. In how you get back up and try again.
The gold is here. In your process.
