On August 24 and September 7, UTHC’s Community Services organized two wonderful fishing outings for a group of elders.

These events gave them the opportunity to get together, share experiences, maintain connections, and participate in activities that reflect their traditions and culture.

A big thank you to Marie-Eve Lacroix, recreation therapist, and Sheila Narrainen, educator, for their commitment to providing elders with opportunities to come together and actively participate in community life, as well as to organizations Nunami ᓄᓇᒥ and Saqijuq for their invaluable support. Thanks to their generosity, our elders were able to reconnect with their traditions, socialize, enjoy the great outdoors, and engage in an activity they cherish, all while fishing for one of their favorite traditional foods. These outdoor activities brought them great joy and helped create cherished memories.

On Friday, September 4, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Dr. Caroline Quach, Quebec’s National Director of Public Health, to the Kuujjuaq Hospital.

While visiting Nunavik from August 30 to September 4, Dr. Quach visited Puvirnituq, Kangiqsualujjuaq, and Kuujjuaq to gain a better understanding of the realities faced by our communities.

In Kuujjuaq, Mr. Larry Watt, Executive Director of UTHC, and Dr. Nathalie Boulanger, Director of Professional Services, had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Quach during a tour of the hospital.

The meeting provided an occasion to discuss what matters most: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀. Because behind every health issue, there are people. Patients. Families. Workers. Communities.

Thank you, Dr. Quach, for listening, for being here, and for your interest in the realities of Nunavik. It was a real pleasure to welcome you and share this moment with you.

On Friday, August 14th, a special BBQ was organized for the elders of Tusaajapik. The entire community was invited to participate to bring the atmosphere of the Aqpik Jam to life for our elders, many of whom cannot travel to attend the shows at the theatre.

Over 𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 gathered at the beach to eat together, enjoy the beautiful weather, and listen to live music from 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗔𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗷𝘂𝗸 (𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹) and 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲, one of our multi-talented wellness advocates!

This beautiful day allowed our elders to be at the heart of the celebration and to share a warm moment with the entire community.

𝗟’𝗔𝗾𝗽𝗶𝗸 𝗝𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝗾𝘂’𝗮̀ 𝗧𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗸!
