Reflecting on a beautiful May Grove Rove πŸ₯° Thank you so much to our animated leader, Art, who shared his passion for critters large and small. We listened for birds, discussed winged insects, noticed trilliums, and smelled the sweet fresh greenness of spring. Thank you to everyone who joined, and for the generous donations given to Friends of the Grove πŸ’š

What an Earth Day treat: some sweet fox kits frolicking in the meadow next to Gillies Grove old growth forest 🦊 Four kits were spotted tumbling and playing in the grassy space. This called an ecotone: an even more biodiverse threshold between two ecosystems. This land is not protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada like Gillies Grove is, and was recently purchased by a construction company. We're so happy to see these sweet creatures, and determined to protect them and their home from a sub division development. Thank you to the community member who shared their photo with us πŸ’š

Last weekend, we were guided to paint a serene scene while we enjoyed the ambiance of the Art Loft. We're so grateful to artist and teacher Murielle Egan, for all of her time during the preparation and the fantastic lesson. It was beautiful to see all the subtle differences on our creations 🎨

A big thank you to for the use of the inspiring space! And to Kim for sharing an update during the tea break regarding how Friends of the Grove is working to protect Gillies Old growth forest and the surrounding trails, riverfront, and community garden from threat of a sub division development.

Friends of the Grove "is concerned that a possible development on 20 acres of land formerly owned by the Galilee Centre will stunt the future of the old growth forest next door.
Indeed Carleton Place, a community of similar size with a growth rate that compares with Arnprior’s already has an Urban Forest and River Corridor Advisory Committee in place"

The next event is Feb 26 at 6:30 pm and is open to all.

Hosted at .Tilda & - located at 158 John Street North in Arnprior.
