ARMSTRONG PRIDE SOCIETY

Supporting, celebrating, reflecting the diversity of Armstrong through art, music and community events

Our logo began with the Progress Pride Flag and uses all eleven of its colours:
Red to signify life, orange to signify healing, yellow - new ideas and thoughts,
green - prosperity, blue - serenity, violet - spirit and the colours black and brown to represent people of

colour, and white, blue and pink the trans community. The green border of our logo represents our home, Armstrong, BC in the heart of the Spallumcheen Valley, and is emblematic of its lush green fields. Our logo’s pinwheel shape depicts movement and change, with the convergence of all colours at a center point to symbolize the coming together of the LGBTQ2S+ community, friends, allies and neighbours and the broader community of Armstrong. As an organization our mission is to honour and celebrate the diversity of Armstrong and to advocate for human rights and social justice. We do this through the creation of art, music and community events where we can express, learn and grow together through shared and uplifting experiences. TERRITORY ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Armstrong Pride respectfully acknowledges that we live in the ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the Splatsin-Secwepemc and Syilx-Okanagan people. We are grateful to call this area our home.

Kelowna Pride Society grieves and stands in solidarity with Tumbler Ridge.

In the wake of recent violence, we are deeply troubled by the surge of transphobic commentary circulating on social media.

Let us be clear: violence is not caused by gender identity or Trans Identities. Attempts to weaponize tragedy to target Trans, Non-Binary, and Two-Spirit people are harmful, inaccurate, and unacceptable.

Moments of grief and shock do not excuse the spread of hate, misinformation, or dehumanization. Trans and gender-diverse communities already face disproportionate levels of violence, harassment, and erasure. Using tragedy as a pretext to further marginalize these communities compounds harm and puts lives at risk.

Kelowna Pride Society stands in solidarity with Trans, Non-Binary, and Two-Spirit people—here in the Interior and beyond. We affirm your dignity, your safety, and your right to exist without being scapegoated for violence you did not cause.

We call on community members to:
• Refrain from speculation, misinformation, and hateful commentary
• Challenge transphobia when it appears, both online and offline
• Centre care, accountability, and compassion in how we respond to harm

This is a moment to slow down, to grieve responsibly, and to remember that collective safety is built through solidarity—not blame.

We remain committed to fostering a community rooted in respect, truth, and care for all.

In solidarity,
Kelowna Pride Society

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:
Gender affirming care is a form of life saving and evidence-based healthcare;
The Government of Alberta has limited who can have reasonable access to healthcare through Bill 26;
The Canada Health Act states that “eligible residents of Canada must have reasonable access to required health services”;
The Canadian Medical Association has stated this legislation is an unprecedented intrusion into the physician’s ability to follow clinical guidelines, and the needs of patients;
It is up to patients and their healthcare provider to decide what care they require;
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms upholds the right of residents of Canada to Section 2a (the right to freedom of conscience in medical practice), Section 7 (the right to life, liberty and security of the person), Section 12 (the right to be free from cruel and unusual treatment), and Section 15 (equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination);
The denial of gender affirming care can lead to profound consequences on the psychological welfare of youth, which can result in suicidal ideation or su***de; and
Our leaders should be encouraging youth to receive healthcare as advised by their healthcare providers, rather than undermining it.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to ensure all eligible residents of Canada can access required healthcare, including gender affirming healthcare, as outlined in the Canada Health Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
