We’re committed to keeping our local community informed and connected to the shark research happening right here in Atlantic Canada.

ASE’s Dr. Neil Hammerschlag will be presenting at the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on May 7 at the Rodd Grand Hotel. He’ll be sharing updates from our great white shark research and outreach efforts taking place off the coast of Yarmouth, with expeditions departing from Pubnico in late summer and early fall.

The event is open to the public—we’d be glad to have you join us if you’re interested and available. Breakfast is included with registration.

Clearer Skies Start at Your Front Door! 🌌

Have you ever looked at a streetlamp or a porch light and realized it’s doing more to hide the stars than light your way? This week, we’re tackling "Light Trespass" with a high-tech twist.

We are thrilled to welcome Tim Doucette from the Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan, NS! Tim will be showing us how he uses 3D printing to create custom shields and shades for existing outdoor lights.

It’s a game-changer for making your home (and community) dark-sky friendly without breaking the bank.

📅 When: Sunday Night at 8:00 PM ADT

Happy Astronomy Day!

With deep gratitude, we recognize the communities across Canada who have welcomed us and shared in this journey under the stars. ✨

To Indigenous communities, thank you for your stewardship of the land and sky, and for the wisdom, stories, and traditions that deepen our connection to the cosmos. 🌌

To our regional partners and local champions, your collaboration and belief have helped transform dark skies into places of meaning, discovery, and sustainable growth. Together, we are building something lasting—rooted in respect, culture, and wonder. 🤝

We are honoured to walk this path with you. The night sky belongs to us all. 💫
