The Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild was established in 2005 as a charity and teaching guild and we are, in fact, a registered charity. Since our beginnings only seven years ago we have been supporting the Ajax-Pickering Hospital, Ballycliffe Lodge Nursing Home, The Red Cross, The Children’s Wish Foundation and Samaritan’s Purse (Operation Christmas Child). Since February 2006 (when we started keepin
g complete records of all donations) we have donated well over 400 quilts, over 200 receiving blankets, over 100 burp cloths and over 1500 knitted newborn hats as well as many other miscellaneous items too numerous to mention. We started out with 35 very enthusiastic members and our group has now been capped at 60. The wait list is long because everyone hears about how much fun we have and wants to join our "twisted" little group! We meet on the second Tuesday evening of every month (from September to June) at Ajax Alliance Church in Ajax, Ont. We hold workshops for our members on the third Saturday of each month where we either work on our charity quilts, learn from a guest instructor or learn new techniques or projects from one of our talented members. Visitors are welcome to join us ($7) at our monthly evening meetings with the exception of the December and June meetings which are for members only. We have 4 great guest speakers joining us for the 2012/2013 season. At our September meeting, Cleo Tobias will be talking about how to photograph our quilts for competition, Connie Teplitsky from Toronto will be impressing us with her trunk show in January, Elaine Quehl from Ottawa will wow us with her stunning art quilts in March, and April has Anita Zobens visiting us from Superior Threads.
