At 91 years old, this runner from Seremban lined up at the Petaling Jaya Half Marathon 2025 and crushed the Men’s Senior Veteran 10km category. He crossed the line in 1 hour and 46 minutes faster than many runners decades younger.

And here’s the kicker: Ong wasn’t last. Far from it. He finished 118th out of 127 in his category, and 1296th overall among 1,422 participants. That means he left plenty of younger athletes behind.

Even more inspiring? Just one week earlier, Ong had already completed another race: the IJM Land Half Marathon, where he covered 12km in just over 2 hours. Two races. Two weekends. At age 91.

Photos and videos of him have since gone viral, with netizens calling him a legend and living proof that running is a sport with no age limit.

If you ever needed motivation to lace up, Ong’s story is it.

This weekend is going to be beautiful! I hope you’ll spend it enjoying all that Airdrie has to offer! From fun at Souto Farms to the Splash Park, there’s so much to take in and experience!

Of special note, I wanted to point out that some of our very talented student performers are in StoryBook Theatre’s cast of Chicago (the youth friendly version!) including performances this weekend! There are TWO casts but from what I’ve heard, both have Airdrie youth in them and both are awesome!

On the topic of performers, I also want to give a shout out to Nose Creek Players who are currently doing a fundraising push where every dollar is matched by a provincial grant! Please check out their page to donate whatever you can, but I know their favourite number right now is $40 for 40 years of theatre in Airdrie!
