Connection, belonging, and contribution are at the heart of strong communities. Through Volunteer Halton, we're creating opportunities for people to get involved, make a difference, and build meaningful connections.

From our dedicated Volunteer Halton Ambassador Team and community-wide Volunteer Fairs, to evidence-based learning opportunities that strengthen the skills of volunteer engagement professionals, we're helping create a culture where volunteering can thrive.

Our work is also guided by research that looks beyond challenges to discover what is already strong in our communities. By understanding the assets, strengths, and aspirations that bring people together, we can create new possibilities for participation, leadership, and civic engagement.

The Halton Research to Action Fund helps transform these insights into action, enabling communities to create spaces where people can connect, contribute, volunteer, lead, and thrive. Because research can reveal more than challenges, it can uncover opportunities for belonging, purpose, and stronger communities.

Planning out your fall professional development schedule? Be sure to include attending the Stakeholder Engagement workshop on November 18th!

This two-hour, hands-on workshop explores what stakeholder engagement really means for grassroots and emerging organizations.

Stakeholder engagement is about building relationships, fostering trust, and promoting a shared sense of ownership. It means drawing the people who matter most - community members, volunteers, funders, partners, and those directly impacted - into the work in meaningful ways. It's how organizations stay connected, relevant, and trusted in their community; how they ensure that their programs, advocacy, and energy are guided by the very people they exist to serve.

Key Takeaways
-A draft stakeholder map and customized engagement plan
-A deeper understanding of how relationships shape organizational credibility and impact
-Greater awareness of whose voices are missing or under-represented in current decision-making

Presenter: Lori Stanley

Lori Stanley works with nonprofit leaders and boards who care deeply about their communities and are carrying a lot at once. She understands that the work is heavy, resources are often stretched, and decisions matter. Her role is to help organizations slow things down just enough to find clarity, make thoughtful choices, and move forward with more confidence and less overwhelm.

As a nonprofit strategist, facilitator, and mentor, Lori supports organizations through strategic planning, governance conversations, and leadership decision-making that actually fit real-world constraints. She is known for her calm, grounded approach and her ability to create spaces where people can think clearly, speak honestly, and leave with practical direction they can act on. Her work blends deep sector understanding with a simple, usable structure so plans do not sit on a shelf.

Lori has worked with nonprofits of all sizes, including many grassroots and community-based organizations. She believes good strategy should feel supportive, not intimidating, and that leaders do not need to be fixed, just better supported as they do meaningful work.
