Warning **Graphic images**

Working as a rehabilitation center we deal with some really sad cases. But nothing can prepare you for the heart ache when a bird you have seen banded and fledge from your area is shot while perched in her new home territory. Especially when that bird is a rare female Orange breasted Falcon, banded 4K.

She was claiming a territory of her own and ended up in Toledo. Where a strong hold of the species resides. She was perched and a man took out his pellet rifle and shot her in the face. The pellet went in and through her skull, exiting the top of her head. She died instantly. A species that could be gone in the next decade, just lost an incredibly healthy female who would of passed along her strong genetics to future generations.

This isn't just heartbreaking for the conservation work that biologist have poured blood, sweat and tears into but also to the tourism spector. People travel the world to come to Belize to see this species in the wild. What an income she would of brought to the village as people flocked to come and photograph her beauty.

As an aerial species she would if never been a threat to livestock. But an ignorant human took her life anyway. 💔💔💔

We currently have an Orange breasted falcon rehab patient and the lose of one life, might help us better rehab our patient by giving her better matched feathers. This process is called imping and as her feathers were broken off, the shot female feathers will better help protect our patients feather when they come in. Also this will help her during her daily falconry exercise routine that our falconer Ana María Morales Cañizares has her on.

On an end note. Please stop shooting birds of prey. They hold such important ecological services that we rely on to maintain a healthy ecosystem. Without them the system we rely on will crumb. They keep us healthy so let's keep them safe ♥️♥️♥️

If you'd like us to come and talk with your village about Birds of Prey ( these photos we were in San Pedro talking about the OBF) please reach out at 615-0226

This has GOT TO STOP!

Humans, we have GOT TO DO BETTER. For Belize , our children, our wildlife, our domestics, and our livestock.

Why are we so willing to kill so much in order to control a few pest animals? When did we get so lazy to catch rat? Poison is not the answer and the harm it is doing to the earth and all her inhabitants is devastating.

Have rats? Prevention for rats is the first thing to do. Clean up the trash, seal up food sources, seal holes, lay out traps, snap them, live catch them. There are many ways to catch a rat.

But please stop the poison. It DOESNT work long term anyway. You will ALWAYS end up with more rats. It's proven. They want you to keep having to buy it. It's called the BAIT BOX SCHEME.

These pictures of poison packages are the most dangerous product on the market in Belize for secondary poisoning and are not even a registered product legal to sell in Belize. No regular household should EVER have their hands on this sort of rodenticide.

These photos were taken outside the Bladen Forest Reserve. There was enough poison in 3 stores to kill all the wildlife within the reserve

Poison doesn't just kill the rat.

What are we doing to this earth? What will we leave for our children and our grandchildren 😞😞 they need a balanced ecosystem to thrive. We all do. Once the top predators are gone, the whole ecosystem will crash. And we will all suffer.

Please do better. And if you need help with rodent problems call us. We are here to help! We are here for Belize, her people and her wildlife. That's why the Poison Free Belize Campaign is so important ♥️♥️

***Pesticide Control Board has been informed and are on this report. They are doing enforcement as soon as it is reported. So please, if you see these products, Please contact them and make a report. Or send info to me and ill do it for you.****

Wildlife needs your help!

Please join us for our fun day fundraiser on the 29th of August from 3-9pm Booze and Branches Bar & Grill. Your ticket includes entrance and a lasanga plate dinner. We will have raffle prizes and amazing auction items. Music with Aldo and karaoke and beer and/or juice pong 😉 starting at 7pm.

We have had an amazing year since the start of our Poison Free Belize initiative!! That is because of all the support from our fundraisers and donors. Rodenticides are now on the Pesticide Control Board radar, which they were not prior to the campaign. We are working towards more education for pest control companies and also stricter regulations for deployment of currently registered rodenticides. This fundraiser will also support the building and installation of Barn owl habitats to help small scales farmers make the switch to biological pest control in their fields instead of poison.

Please join us on the 29th for an amazing afternoon supporting a wonderful cause that will make Belize a safer and healthier place for wildlife, domestics livestock and the people. ♥️♥️♥️

Tickets can be bought at Booze and Branches, directly from the Raptor Center, and also electronically (we will email your tickets to you)

**if you are a resort, store or an individual and would like to make a donation to the fundraiser, please reach out to Sarah directly at 615-0226 or by email [email protected]

Day 3 of our Raptor Ambassador Camp was spent learning about snakes with the Belize Wildlife Clinic. Huge thanks to Max for making the time to come ans hang with the kiddos, they had such a great time.

Next we did a Why Raptor Matter activity with the Perergrine Fund, and created food webs, we then added humans and pesticides and saw how they biomagnify within the environment. They kids were shocked at how the chemicals we spray to stop insects from eating the crops, or the poison we put down for the rats works it's way up the food chain.

After this we went to our camp site. Stay tune for photos. ♥️♥️♥️
