When Thato Dithole joined the Tokafala Youth entrepreneurship programme in 2024, she had a strong desire to succeed in business but limited experience in entrepreneurship and financial management. She knew that passion alone was not enough; she needed the right skills, guidance, and confidence to grow sustainably.
Through Tokafalaโs training and mentorship, Thato experienced a turning point. She gained practical knowledge in business modelling, financial projections, pricing, and growth strategies, equipping her with tools she immediately applied to start her business, Harn Juno Butchery in Malotwana, Kgatleng District. โFor the first time, I can confidently price products, understand costs, and accurately calculate profit margins after expensesโ, she says. This shift transformed how she manages the butchery daily.
As a result of these newly acquired skills, Harn Juno Butchery has remained financially stable and resilient, never closing due to losses since its inception. This performance has enabled the butchery to employ two (2) workers, creating employment opportunities within the local community.
Established with support from a family loan, the butchery was inspired by a clear community need. With only one other butchery located approximately 3 kilometres away, many residents struggled to access meat products. Harn Juno Butchery has helped close this gap, improving convenience and access for people in Malotwana while operating in a growing meat market.
Looking ahead, Thato is focused on the future. With a stronger foundation built through mentorship and training, she plans to expand the business by introducing chicken products, ensuring consistent availability, and meeting the evolving needs of her customers.
