Storytelling as an Advocacy Tool - LERATO Film Screening

Honouring the invitation at Alliance Française de Gaborone on behalf of CEO and Founder of Re A Bua Ms. Kemmy Mpinang, and representing the Foundation, Ms. Kutlo Kadise highlighted the importance of storytelling as a tool for advocacy against Gender-Based Violence.

Storytelling empowers survivors of GBV by helping them find their own voice. Films such as LERATO by Wendile Laba also play an important role in dismantling harmful cultural norms and narratives surrounding Gender-Based Violence.

Ms. Kemmy Mpinang herself is a survivor of GBV who transformed pain into purpose through storytelling and authorship. There is a strong parallel between her books and the broader conversation around prevention and awareness.

Her book Different But Equal, which was presented during the event, serves as an early intervention tool that teaches children important life skills and behaviours that protect them socially and emotionally. Her second book, The Journey ,takes us through what happens when society fails to have early conversations about GBV, and the consequences that follow when silence replaces education.

EMPOWERING PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN AGAINST BULLYING - book donation drive...

One of the key objectives of RE A BUA Foundation is to eliminate bullying in schools.
From experience, it has become clear that children who are bullied are more likely to nexome victims of several kinds of abuses as they learn not to trust anyone. Bullying silences them.
It is against this background that our founder, Kemmy Mpinang has found it befitting to author and donate a book that sensitizes children against bullying, encouraging them to become assertive in telling someone earlier.
Today Ms Kemmy donated 14 books at Boikhutso Primary School, after yesterday donation of another 14 books at Bophirima Primary School
The book is titled
"Equal but different: The story of maatla and Lefika"
It contains a children's story that motivates them to be assertive against bullying and abusive behaviours that in most cases expose children to gender based violence.

♡♡♡We wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge that this book donation was made possible by the kind donation of Servant Naledi-Ashia who made it possible to fund printing costs of the books from the publisher♡♡♡

Contact us to donate these books to your village library, village school, or just your nieces and nephews...

According to UNESCO education sector report on "ending school violence"(2019), some learners experience physical fights with their peers. Children who experience violence are also more likely to be vulnerable to gender based violence (GBV) at school and at home, as they fail to know where to draw boundaries earlier on.

It is for this reason that the Re A Bua Foundation today donated copies of the book “Different But Equal” authored by our Founder CEO Ms. Kemmy Mpinang at Bophirima Primary school in Gaborone. This book raises awareness on early prevention of GBV on school-going children.
The book aims to help children understand important values such as kindness, respect, boundary setting, equality, and the harmful effects of bullying.
The initiative aims to nurture safer and more compassionate students from an early age.

REMEMBERING TSHEPI - A YEAR ON!!! (From 17th May 2025 to 17th May 2026)

‼️The 17th May 2025 marks a year since Tshepi met her demise under suspicious circumstances that lead her biological father to engage RE A BUA Foundation to mobilize investigations surrounding her passing.

🛑RE A BUA Foundation as an NGO tasked with fighting girl child gender-based violence was enlisted by Tshepi’s father to assist him on private investigations regarding his daughter, Tshepi.
💃Following some non-progressive investigations on the part of the Botswana police Service, and failure to account on the events that surrounded Tshepi’s passing, RE A BUA Foundation, as an NGO, rallied the social movement that questioned the conduct of the Botswana Police Service during investigations, and consequently petitioned the office of the Botswana President/Parliament.
Prior to the public march of the 09th April 2026, the NGO ran an online petition in support of , and subsequently garnered more than 60, 000 signatures.

Ms Kemmy Mpinang, Founder CEO of Re A Bua Foundation had the privilege of speaking with students at Sedibelo Junior Secondary School in Mochudi on the importance of addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), bullying, and fostering safe, respectful environments from an early age. Through meaningful conversations and education, we can empower young minds to recognize harmful behaviors, speak up, and become advocates for kindness, respect, and equality in their communities.

Books also remain a powerful tool for education and transformation. It was inspiring to see the students engaging with our Founder’s books, (Different But Equal and The Journey) using literature as a pathway to learning, awareness, and positive change. By combining education with open dialogue, we continue to nurture a generation that is informed, empowered, and committed to building a safer future for all.

Honoring an invite in Ledumang
Today, 2 May 2026, the Re A Bua Foundation took a bold step toward a safer future for our children. Through it’s CEO, Ms. Kemmy Mpinang, we spent the day in the Ledumang Community tackling the difficult conversations that matter most.
Our mission was clear: to raise awareness on the toxic cultures that fuel GBV against children. At Re A Bua, we believe that "it takes a village," but that village must be a safe haven. We are dedicated to our mandate of transforming GBV-infested communities into better, healthier homes for every child and every family.
Through our policies, projects, and advocacies, we are not just dreaming of a better world we are building it, one community at a time.
Together, we can break the cycle. Much appreciation to Malebogo Ntambo for organizing such an educational event, let’s honor our elders.

Multistakeholder collaboration on issues of child GBV is critical, and we are encouraged that our sister NGO’s Ditshwanelo , Childline Botswana and Botswana Gender Prevention and Support Centre have issued a statement of support. Our advocacy is focused on encouraging collective action, strengthening prevention efforts, and ensuring accountability. We will continue to speak out and strongly condemn all violations of children’s rights, while garnering broader stakeholder backing to End Violence Against Women and Children.
