The Engineer’s Ladder was pleased to attend the Mining and Innovation Forum hosted by Thrive Development Initiative.

The forum provided an opportunity to engage with conversations around the evolving mining industry, innovation, technology and the role that young professionals can play in shaping the future of the sector.

As an organisation committed to supporting the growth and development of young engineers, we believe that creating opportunities for young people to **learn, connect, ask questions and engage with industry** is essential.

Botswana’s mining sector continues to present opportunities for innovation, particularly through emerging technologies, data and digital solutions. It is important that young engineers are not only prepared to enter these spaces, but are also equipped to contribute meaningfully to their transformation.

The event consisted of a keynote message by the permanent secretary of Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship Botswana, Mr Joel Ramaphoi and other speakers such as Dr Eng Seleshi Bekele, Nancy Sekgwenyane, Senior Consultant at InnoLead Consulting, Keleadile Ruda, renewable energy engineer and co-founder at Women in Energy Botswana- WinE , Judy Sakreshi, Vice President of Global Solutions at International Code Council , Dr Mirriam Taimu, senior lecturer at Botswana School of Business Sciences as well as Tshepiso Masilonyane, Sustainable Finance Coordinator for Botswana.

We are grateful to Thrive Development Initiative for creating a platform that brings these conversations to the forefront.

Inside the 6th Annual Women in Engineering Round Table Talk

On Friday, New Era College hosted the 6th Annual Women in Engineering Round Table Talk, bringing together a room full of aspiring young engineers for a conversation that was as inspiring as it was thought-provoking.

Students got a rare chance to hear directly from some of the country's leading women in engineering and technology: trailblazers reshaping the field through artificial intelligence, data-driven problem solving, digital transformation, and scalable tech solutions. They spoke candidly about their journeys, the wins, the setbacks, and everything in between, proving once again that women are not just participating in engineering's future, they're building it.

The conversation went beyond achievements. It touched on innovation, leadership, resilience, and why representation in STEM still matters. Students asked questions, exchanged ideas, and walked away with real insight from women actively transforming industries and paving the way for the next generation.

Proud that our media team was there to capture it. Grateful for spaces like this that remind young women in engineering exactly what's possible.

The challenge has never been finding opportunities.

The real challenge is separating impact from conversation.

The Botswana Mining Show was built to create clarity.

It's where industry leaders, investors, innovators, suppliers, entrepreneurs, and citizens come together to shape the future of Botswana's mining sector.

• This is where ideas become partnerships.
• Where conversations become investments.
• Where careers are launched.
• Where the industry takes its next step forward.

The Botswana Mining Show is the people's mining event.

Where you choose to stand today will define the role you play in the next evolution of Botswana's mining industry.

Blueprint Mondays✨️: You can do hard things

Everyone talks about the vision. The mission statement. The big goals you write down when you're excited and everything feels possible. What they don't talk about is the version of you that has to show up every single day after that, when the excitement has worn off and it's just you, a task list, and the quiet discipline of doing the next thing.

Building something takes an insane amount of focus. It looks like saying no to things that don't move you closer to what you're building. It looks like sitting with a problem longer than feels comfortable. It looks like showing up on the days you don't feel inspired, because the people counting on you don't need your motivation, they need your consistency.

If you're building something right now, whatever it is, a career, a business, a portfolio, a habit, know that the focus it demands is real and it is hard. That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. It means you're doing something worth doing.

You can do hard things. Keep going.

This past Monday and Tuesday, our Founder and Executive Director Lebogang Kendy Mozela attended the Future of Mining Summit in Gaborone.

Two days of powerful conversations, valuable industry connections, and fresh insight into where mining, technology, and engineering talent are heading in Botswana — all in service of the young engineers we're building this ladder for.

We keep growing. We keep learning. We keep opening doors. 🙏

Sir Seretse Khama Day 🇧🇼

Today we honour the legacy of Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's founding President and a leader whose vision laid the foundation for the nation we continue to build.

His leadership was defined by integrity, unity, and a deep belief in Botswana's potential, values that still guide how we think about growth, service, and nation-building today.

At The Engineer's Ladder, we see this legacy reflected in every young engineer we support. Nation-building didn't end with independence. It continues in classrooms, on construction sites, in control rooms, and in every young professional choosing to build their career here, for Botswana.

To every engineering student and graduate on this journey: you are part of that same story.
Happy Sir Seretse Khama Day.
