🌿✨ Ditladianya Conservation Club in Action! ✨🌿

Today, our passionate team, in collaboration with the Scouts, visited Mokolodi Game Reserve to lend a helping hand in keeping nature clean and protected. 💚 From picking up litter to preserving the beauty of our environment, every small effort counts toward a greener future.

We’re proud to play our part in conservation and give back to the environment that gives us so much. 🌍♻️

📢 A NEW ERA FOR COMMUNITY CONSERVATION

In April, Botswana’s Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) framework will come into effect. The goal of CBNRM has always been simple in principle:

Wildlife conservation should also benefit the communities who live with wildlife. Through community trusts, these programs have supported:

• Employment opportunities
• Village development projects
• Local participation in conservation

As this new phase begins under the Community-Based Natural Resource Management Policy, an important question remains:

💬 What improvements would you like to see in community-based conservation?

While flightless, these birds dominate their environments through speed, size, and specialized survival strategies. They belong to the Ratite group, characterized by a flat breastbone that lacks the "keel" needed for flight muscles.

The Giants of the Ground 💭🦚

• Ostrich (Struthio camelus): The world's largest bird, native to Africa. Standing up to 9 ft (2.7 m) tall, it can run at 43 mph (70 km/h). Its two-toed feet deliver kicks powerful enough to ki|| a lion.

• Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae): The second-largest bird, found in Australia. It weighs up to 130 lbs (60 kg) and features unique, "woolly" double-shafted feathers for desert insulation.

• Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius): A robust rainforest inhabitant of Oceania. It is armed with a 4-inch (10 cm) dagger-like claw on its inner toe, making it the world’s most dangerous bird when threatened.

• Greater Rhea (Rhea americana): South America’s largest bird, reaching 5 ft (1.5 m) in height. In a unique social structure, the male incubates up to 50 eggs from different females and raises the chicks alone.

Happy World Wildlife Day 2026! 🌿

This year, we are honoring and exploring the incredible world of medicinal and aromatic plants. 🌱✨

Medicinal and aromatic plants play a crucial role in supporting ecosystems by stabilizing soils, promoting biodiversity and providing essential resources for pollinators, such as bees and hummingbirds. However, many of these valuable species face growing threats from unsustainable harvesting to illegal trade and more, making their conservation a global priority.
