As we continue to uphold our promise of empowering girls with disabilities alongside their male counterparts, we are happy to share the continuation of our flagship initiative: the Maatla-a-Mosetsana Development Program now at Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre in Mochudi.

Day 1: 2 June 2025

Today, we had Botswana Council for the Disabled guiding our participants on the topic: “Overcoming Gender Stereotypes to Achieve Success in Life and Career Paths

We also had Coach Maemo from Tae sports taekwondo academy, introducing taekwondo to the participants for the very first time, aiming to instill discipline, boost confidence, and teach self-defense techniques to ensure personal safety. It was an incredible experience for everyone involved!

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a harsh and painful reality that continues to silence voices, break spirits, and rob individuals of their dignity and safety. At Beyond Labels Foundation, we say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!

Through our initiative: Maatla-a-Mosetsana Development Program, we are committed to building inclusive and accommodative communities where every person regardless of gender, ability, or background feels safe, respected, and empowered. By using open dialogue, sport, and creative expression, we raise awareness about GBV, while also promoting gender balance, mutual respect, confidence, self-worth, and self-acceptance.

We continue this important journey as we head to Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre(Mochudi) from 2–6 June 2025, engaging hearts, changing minds, and building stronger, more compassionate communities.

Day4-Final Day: Wrapping Up the Maatla-a-Mosetsana Development Program in Style

Today we wrapped up the Maatla-a-Mosetsana Development Program at THUTO BOSWA Rehabilitation Centre in Ramotswa. The day was all about celebrating growth, mindset change and promoting inclusion.

We kicked off the morning with a beautiful certificate ceremony where each participant was awarded a certificate of attendance. It was such a heartwarming moment filled with smiles and laughter, especially because many of the participants, was their first time ever receiving a certificate.

We also recognized five outstanding girls for their growth, participation, and positive change throughout the program. These girls will now take on leadership roles as peer group leaders, supported by the school management in the spirit of continuing the empowerment work even after the Beyond Labels Foundation steps back.

After the awards, it was time to celebrate! We headed to the field for some fun, energetic games: including a sack race relay, egg race, and a lively cricket session. The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) and Beyond Labels Foundation team led the sports activities with great energy, involving not just the participants but also the teaching staff and and some of the Beyond Labels Foundation team. To top it all off, BCA donated cricket equipment to the institution so the fun can continue long after the program ends.

It was the perfect ending to an empowerment week, filled with laughter, learning, and lasting memories

Day 3: Self-Acceptance & Body Positivity

Today’s session was all about embracing who you are and celebrating every part of yourself. We kicked off the morning with an amazing session led by SKY Girls BW, who brought so much energy and inspiration to the participants. They guided the Maatla-a-Mosetsana Development Program participants at THUTO BOSWA Rehabilitation Centre through fun and thoughtful activities focused on self-acceptance and body positivity. The participants took part in a "purpose exercise" that challenged harmful beauty standards, shared affirmations to boost self-love, and wrapped it all up with a lively and confidence-boosting dance challenge.

Immediately after tea break, we shifted gears with a creative painting session where the participants expressed their life stories on paper. It was a beautiful moment of reflection and self-expression, filled with powerful words of affirmation in bright, bold colors.

Closing the day, we empathized the issues of GBV once again. We had a deeply moving talk from Lebang Sadi Gagoope, founder of the Girl Child Movement Botswana. She bravely shared her personal story of losing her parents at the age of 6years due to gender-based violence, and how she rose from that pain to become the strong, inspiring woman she is today. It was a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the importance of finding a stronger voice.

Day 2: Topic – Gender-Based Violence & Personal Safety

Right after the official launch, the day’s program continued with a powerful and eye-opening session. Ms. Thomola from the Ministry of Youth And Gender Affairs Botswana, Ramotswa branch led an engaging session that focused on gender-based violence and personal safety. She touched on important points including: knowing your rights, understanding consent, recognizing safe vs. unsafe touch, types of GBV and the reporting procedures when violated

For many of the participants, it was a real wake-up call. A lot of things they previously thought were “normal” were actually harmful, just misunderstood because they lacked the right information. It was a meaningful and necessary conversation that left everyone more informed and empowered.
