🌍 Day of the African Child | 16 June 2026

Today, we join the rest of the continent in commemorating the Day of the African Child, honoring the bravery of the young people who fought for their right to education and a better future.

This year's theme, "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene to Every Child in Africa," reminds us that access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right that every child deserves.

At the Botswana Society for the Deaf we believe that all children, including Deaf children and children with disabilities, should have equal access to safe and inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities, as well as information presented in accessible formats.

Together, let us work towards an Africa where every child can grow, learn, and thrive in a healthy and inclusive environment.

πŸ’™ Every child matters. Every child deserves dignity. Every child deserves access.

Did you know? Lip-reading only provides part of a conversation and is not always reliable. Many speech sounds look identical on the lips, making misunderstandings common.

Learning basic Sign Language helps create clearer communication and a more inclusive society for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people.
