BDMA Celebrates Zero Tariffs on Botswana Diamonds to the U.S. Market! 💎🇧🇼🇺🇸

The Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association (BDMA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Government of Botswana for the successful negotiations that have resulted in the expiry of temporary U.S. tariffs on Botswana-origin diamonds.

As of 24 July 2026, Botswana's globally renowned natural diamonds once again enter the American market duty-free at 0% following the expiration of Section 122 tariffs under the U.S. Trade Act of 1974. This critical decision by the U.S. State Department removes the immediate tariff-related risk that had affected our exports and reaffirms the strength of the Botswana-U.S. trade relationship.

The Government of Botswana’s commitment to securing this zero-tariff outcome demonstrates its unwavering dedication to the future of beneficiation factories in Botswana. This decision creates a more stable environment for local cutting and polishing operations, supporting jobs and value addition within our country.

BDMA encourage all BDMA members to make the most of this opportunity by strengthening market presence and expanding beneficiation capacity in Botswana.

BDMA thanks both the US and Botswana government for this great achievement.

From June 6th to July 11th, the Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association (BDMA) brought together seven incredible teams for a month of fierce competition, teamwork, and athletic excellence:

After a highly competitive round-robin stage, the finals day delivered unforgettable drama, spectacular curtain-raisers—including a thrilling men’s exhibition match between Notwane Netball Club and BDF Cats—and elite-level netball!

🥇 The Final Standings

- Champions: Defending champions KGK Diamond delivered a masterclass performance to retain their crown! 👑
- Runners-Up: M Suresh / Aurostar for an incredible fight and tournament run.🥈
- 3rd Place: Zebra Diamond, who secured the bronze medal in a hard-fought playoff against Pluczenik (4th). 🥉

A Heartfelt Message from GIA's Tom Moses 🇧🇼💎 before Stepping Down from GIA

We were deeply moved to receive this thoughtful message from Tom Moses, GIA's outgoing Executive Vice President and Chief Laboratory and Research Officer, in response to our appreciation letter.

"I recall my first visit to Botswana where our current 'home' when it was a dusty dirt plot. I brought GIA's chairman of the board at that time to try to convince him this would be an important location for GIA. As the expression goes, 'the rest is history.'"
