A Heartfelt Message from GIA's Tom Moses 🇧🇼💎 before Stepping Down from GIA

We were deeply moved to receive this thoughtful message from Tom Moses, GIA's outgoing Executive Vice President and Chief Laboratory and Research Officer, in response to our appreciation letter.

"I recall my first visit to Botswana where our current 'home' when it was a dusty dirt plot. I brought GIA's chairman of the board at that time to try to convince him this would be an important location for GIA. As the expression goes, 'the rest is history.'"

A heartfelt farewell to two legends! 🎉💎

The BDMA family recently came together to celebrate and honor the incredible careers of Mr. Mmetla Masire (Former CEO, ODC) and Mr. Jacob Thamage (Former Diamond Hub Coordinator).

These two gentlemen are literally the architects of Botswana's rich diamond history. Their leadership has guided our industry to global heights, and their personal friendship with the BDMA has been a cornerstone of our journey.

We are proud to honor them for their immense contributions to Botswana's diamond industry. We wish them a very happy retirement and all the best in their next chapter. You will always be part of our story! 👏🙌

The Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association (BDMA) held its Annual General Meeting on Friday, 6th February 2026, at the Blue Tree Conference Room.

We were glad to gather our dedicated & loyal members for a productive session focused on progress, collaboration, and planning a resilient future for Botswana’s diamond industry.

A heartfelt thank you to all members who participated and contributed to a forward-thinking agenda. The BDMA looks forward to a united, productive, and successful year ahead for our industry.

Ms Thandi Chuma and Ms Tebo Goetswanang from the Office of Information and Data Protection Commissioner presented to members of the BDMA the essence of the Data Protection Act.

They covered the mandate of the Commission, DP Principles and Data Subjects Rights, the role of the Compliance Officer and the importance of a Dat Protection Policy for each company.

They went on to the obligations of the employer for processing employee data.

Forging a Diamond Partnership, India and Botswana Strengthen Ties

Indian President Droupadi Murmu meets the Indian diaspora Sightholders who are members of Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association at Gaborone Botswana, lead by the Chairman Siddarth Gothi.

She learned that over 50% of Botswana’s Sightholders are of Indian origin.

The visit entailed the strengthening of bilateral ties between India and Botswana. BDMA proposed Surat and Gaborone to become twin cities for Natural Diamond value addition and to advance shared development goals.

In her historic address to BDMA members, President Murmu underscored the two nations’ commitment to the sustainable growth of the diamond industry. While she also appreciated the remarkable work the Indian of are doing in Botswana.

BDMA thanks the High Commissioner of India to Botswana, H.E. Bharath Kumar Kuthati for playing an instrumental role in this historic engagement.
