BETTER SPORT BEGINS WITH BETTER LEADERSHIP.

Today, 14 October, the Executive Sports Management Development Programme was officially launched by Hon. Lt. General (Rtd.) Ambassador Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

Jointly delivered by AUSC Region 5 and Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE), the programme puts sports management development on the regional agenda.

Behind every athlete’s opportunity are decisions: how resources are allocated, how organisations are governed and how programmes are delivered. Better management can turn talent into opportunity — and ambition into lasting progress.

This launch marks a beginning. Its value will be measured in how participants apply their learning to the institutions, teams and communities they serve.

For Southern Africa, investing in the people who manage sport is investing in the people sport can reach.

SOUTH AFRICA, PART OF THE JOURNEY. PART OF THE PRIDE.

South Africa welcomed the Maputo 2026 Region 5 Youth Games torch, joining a regional journey that brings our young athletes closer to the Games — and to one another.

For every athlete preparing to represent South Africa, the road to Maputo is built through daily effort: another training session, another lesson, another chance to improve.

To the coaches, families and teammates beside them: your support matters long before the crowds begin to cheer.

The torch moves on. The commitment stays — to give young people opportunities to compete, grow and make their countries proud.

BOTSWANA CARRIED THE TORCH. THE PRIDE STAYS WITH US.

The Maputo 2026 Region 5 Youth Games torch has already made its stop in Botswana, adding another chapter to a journey that connects ten nations through sport.

For a young athlete, representing home begins long before the Games. It begins at training, with the encouragement of a coach and with people who believe their effort can take them further.

The torch carries that belief from country to country. When our athletes meet in Maputo, they will compete for their flags — and discover how much they share.

Thank you, Botswana, for being part of this journey. To the young athletes preparing for Maputo: keep going. Your country will be cheering for you.

Zimbabwe welcomed the Region 5 Youth Games Torch on its journey to Maputo.

Each stop brings the Games closer to the young people preparing to compete in December. Here, sport gave Zimbabwe another occasion to stand alongside its neighbours and celebrate what this region can achieve together.

Africa United. More than just a race. The Region 5 Marathon returns to Pretoria on 1 November, bringing athletes and communities together at the Union Buildings.

The Region 5 Youth Games Torch continued its journey across Southern Africa, with Zambia proudly receiving the flame on the road to Maputo 2026.

Malawi welcomed the torch with young athletes at the heart of the celebration, carrying forward a journey built on unity, excellence and youth empowerment.

The flame also reached Eswatini, connecting another generation of young athletes to the regional movement ahead of the 2026 Region 5 Youth Games.

Eswatini’s turn to carry the flame. 🇸🇿

The Youth Games Torch has passed through many hands on its way to Maputo. In Eswatini, it was welcomed by the people who will give this journey its meaning: young athletes looking ahead to December.

The ceremony lasts a day. The opportunity to compete, meet their peers and represent their country can stay with them much longer.

Malawi welcomed the flame with its young athletes at the heart of the moment. 🇲🇼

They stood beside the torch that is travelling across our region towards the 2026 Region 5 Youth Games in Maputo. Around them, music and dance gave this stop a distinctly Malawian welcome.

Soon, young people from across Southern Africa will meet in competition. For now, each country has a moment to receive the flame and make it its own.
