The Southern African Teachers Organisation (SATO) wishes all teachers a HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS' DAY 2026. We encourage SATO affiliates to continue the good work they are doing to protect the teaching profession and shape the future.
This year’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures”, marks 60 years since the adoption of the 1966 ILO-UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
The core focus of this recommendation includes elevating teacher status, improving working conditions, and tackling global challenges such as teacher shortages, workloads, and digital shifts.
However, we commend governments that are doing everything in their power to implement this recommendation effectively.
