As Dr. Molelekwa from Gaborone Fertility Clinic explains, a cycle that is consistently much shorter or longer than the expected range may be a sign that something is affecting ovulation.

And because ovulation is an important part of conception, irregular or absent ovulation can make it harder to become pregnant.

Your period can give you important clues about what’s happening in your reproductive health. So, if your cycles are irregular, it may be worth speaking to a healthcare professional rather than simply accepting it as “normal for you.”

Pay attention to your cycle. Know your body. Ask questions. ❤️

Infertility doesn’t only affect people who have never had children.

Secondary infertility refers to difficulty conceiving or carrying a pregnancy after previously having a child.

It can happen for many reasons, including changes in age, hormonal health, ovulation, s***m quality, reproductive health, or other medical factors. Sometimes, no clear cause is found.

Having a child before doesn’t mean that trying again will necessarily be easy.

Every fertility journey is different and every one deserves understanding and compassion.

One myth at a time, we keep learning. ✨🤍

We often talk about the things that hurt.
Today, we want to pause and acknowledge the things that hold us. And make it the People that hold us.

The friend who checks in without asking for an update.
The partner who stays.
The sister who listens.
The parent who learns.
The colleague who quietly makes space.

Infertility can be a lonely journey, but many of us are carried by love in ways that don’t always make it into the conversation.

To the people who stand beside someone navigating infertility: thank you. We see you too.

Who am I if I never became a mother? Infertility has a way of raising some of life’s hardest questions.

In this conversation, Pastor Mmoloki Mogokgwane reminds us that our identity, purpose and worth are never defined by our ability to have children.

If you’ve ever wrestled with your faith, questioned your purpose or simply needed hope, we hope this conversation meets you where you are.🤍

Regular periods can be a positive sign, but they don’t always tell us everything about fertility.

So, if you’ve been told “but your periods are regular, so you should be fine,” know that your experience is valid.

Fertility is more than your menstrual cycle

“You don’t have to stay.. you can leave” words someone navigating infertility has whispered to the person they love.

Not because they want them to go…but because guilt can become heavier than the diagnosis itself.

Dr Selemogwe-Matsetse beautifully explains why infertility is never just one persons burden. You can watch the full episode here : Male infertility is a recognised medical condition and can happen for a variety of reasons.
In this video, Fertility specialist and founder of Gaborone Fertility Clinic (tag them) Dr Vincent Molelekwa explains some of the factors that may contribute to male infertility and why understanding the cause is an important step in the fertility journey.

Sometimes, not having an answer can be an answer in itself.

When fertility tests come back within normal ranges but pregnancy still isn’t happening, it can leave individuals and couples feeling confused, frustrated, and wondering what they are missing.

This may be diagnosed as unexplained infertility and it does not make the struggle any less real.

Normal test results do not mean “it’s all in your head.” They simply mean that, with the investigations currently available, a clear cause has not been identified.

There is no “single experience” of struggling to build a family ❤️‍🩹

For some, it is years of trying without ever seeing a positive pregnancy test. For others, conception happens but is followed by pregnancy loss.. Sometimes more than once.

And yet, these experiences are often met with comparisons:

“At least you fell pregnant.”
“At least you know you can conceive.”
“At least…”

But grief doesn’t need to compete for legitimacy.

In this reflection from our inaugural I-Rise Foundation conversation, Lenna Tau, Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV Programme Specialist at UNFPA Botswana reminds us of the complexity of our reproductive health journeys and why understanding those differences matters.

Someone else’s journey does not have to look like ours for their pain to be valid.

The more we listen, the more we replace comparison with compassion and judgment with understanding.

There is room for every story here.

On Saturday, 1st of August, the I-Rise Foundation held its very first monthly in-person support group 🤗

In a room where stories were held with compassion, understanding and without judgment, members of our community came together to remind one another of something we all need to hear:

You don’t have to carry this journey alone.

To protect the privacy and confidentiality of everyone who attended, we have chosen to use an AI-generated illustration rather than photographs from the session. Some moments are simply too sacred to document, and what was shared in that room belongs to those who entrusted us with their stories.

A heartfelt thank you to our psychosocial partners, Psych Matters BW for walking this journey alongside us. Through your professional guidance and unwavering commitment to mental health, you helped create a space where healing could begin. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and all that it is making possible.

As we continue to grow, our hope is to create more safe spaces across Botswana where individuals and couples navigating infertility can find community, understanding and hope.

If you’re navigating infertility and would like to become part of the I-Rise community, we’d love to welcome you.

Telling someone to "just relax" may seem well-intentioned, but it can unintentionally dismiss the physical, emotional, and medical challenges they may be facing.

If you know someone on their fertility journey, the most powerful thing you can offer isn't advice it's support. 🤍
