We have noted attempts by some individuals to frame our ICT Graduates Petition as a political initiative. We wish to clearly state that this petition has never been political and will never be political.
This initiative is about the lived reality of unemployed ICT graduates in Botswana. It is about our qualifications, our futures and the opportunities we believe should exist for young professionals who have invested years in education and training.
Our decision to submit the petition through the Leader of the Opposition was guided by procedure not politics. The Speaker of the National Assembly advised that any elected Member of Parliament may present a citizen petition and we exercised that option within the framework of parliamentary rules. As citizens we are also exercising our democratic right to petition Parliament and raise concerns that affect our livelihoods and the development of the ICT sector. This movement is not aligned to any political party. It is aligned to solutions, fairness and opportunities for ICT graduates.
Please do not misunderstand us, we are not fighting the government. We remain committed to engaging respectfully with all stakeholders and leaders who are willing to listen and help address the unemployment crisis affecting ICT graduates. This is about our lives, our profession and our future not politics.
